NAIROBI, Kenya
Officials say gunmen shot dead a Briton subcontracted to the Malaysian oil giant Petronas in Ethiopia's conflict-wracked southeastern Ogaden region.
The British Foreign Office said Friday the shooting happened Apr. 5 near Danod town and that Ethiopian officials are carrying out a full investigation.
The man worked for IMC Geophysics International Ltd, which is contracted to do seismic work for Petronas.
Ogadeni rebels fighting the Ethiopian government were not immediately available for comment. In April 2007 the Ogaden National Liberation Front attacked a Chinese-owned oil exploration field, killing 74 people.
Ethiopia does not produce oil but Chinese companies and Petronas have signed exploration deals.

Re: Briton oil-firm contractor killed
Killilng an Oil worker does not help anyone really, This guy was only doing what he's Company sent him to do.I dont think he gave 2 cents or was even aware of the Political situation in the area, he was simply a worker lured by a greedy Oil Company with no regard for his safety.
ONLF has come out and refuted any claim that it was there fighters involved in this incident, and the Ethiopian Goverment has made no effort in naming ONLF in the incident.
But surely, it does send a message to the Oil Comapnies.
