Lets talk real history
What is this nonsense Im reading in the Oromo thread? The only nation the Habashis were ever afraid of was Awdal (at the time Awdal consisted of Saylac and Lughaya all the way towards Jigjiga, Dembel, Awbare, Amoud etc). That was Adal. The rest of the Somali nomads never posed a significant challenge to the Abysinnians. It was easy picking for them. When the Abysinnians expanded towards Somali territory they took baby steps to come to our land and they used Somali and Oromo camel herders to attemt to capture us unsuccesfully. Mengistu even tried to settle ORomo farmers near the frontier of Awdal to try and shift the power change.
Let us not cherry pick history folks, the only place Menelik and his gang feared was Awdal.

Re: Lets talk real history
Funny man, adal has nothing to do with you. Adal was afar and thats what us Oromos formerly called them, adali. Even your prime love and joy this awdal and zeila is not even an original somali settlement. It was a mix of eritrean and arab like people. What you are doing is stealing another man's history and legacy.RuralMan08 wrote:What is this nonsense Im reading in the Oromo thread? I dont know why Somalis hate amharas and tigrayians so much? They attacked us Oromos way more than you and which i bet you recent forefathers took advantage of and whom i also doubt your gadabursi clan lifted one finger to attack menelik, but still there is hate.
Oh yeah by the way menelik was not afraid of you but your masters the british since you northern somalis were such excellent serfs to them

RuralMan u funny guy
Pre or post Imam Ahmed Awdal was never a Somali kingdom!
Some somali mercenaries were in Adalite Army...this does not equate to Adal being Somali kingdom
Its as if I say Abyssinia is Oromo kingdom because majority of its army and generals for the last 4 centuries upto twenty years ago were Oromos!
Now some lectures for u about the Adal empire.,
The Adal empire was alive and strong after defeat of Imam Ahmed; strong enough to kill the Abyssinian king (Galaawdeos i believe).
It was us the eastern Oromos who destroyed it.
Short after the establishment of Odaa Bultum(mid 16TH century) we laid siege to Harar town, and cut it off from the rest of the Adal;
Marawwa(todays wallo oromo) oromos and Itu went deep far in their desert and send the Adal empire into oblivion.
this was in 16TH century.
Since then Wat was left of Adal empire was only small part of it composed of only Afars( no somali mercenaries) streching from Zeila up nrth in the desert.
Presenting yourself, vis a vis other somali clans, as direct heir is a wise move though ...i can feel the envy in their minds

Yes Indeed!
History is revisionist by definition: our understanding of the past change and can change dramatically as new technics OR facts r discovered.
History is dynamic: the frontier/composition of nations change! some r sent into oblivion....new nations arise at their place!
For instance I forsee the disappearance of oromo nation in 50 years!
people will say on our thomb they were not, they were and they r no lnger
The only permanent identity through ages is the BANTU NATION.
LETS STICK TO IT
B.
History is written for the MASTA , I wont be surprised if, when the history of the horn is rewritten, the lions share is given to the UberMensen that Tigrayans became.
U already have some somali clans claiming being tigray;
later u will hear tigrayans running awdal empire....and a crazy oromo will show up with a theory linking Gada to tigray

Well its already documented of raya in tigray for some time now. All the northerners know that people of raya azebo are the fiercest fighters of tigray with there pastrolist lifestyle and their love for sticks this marks their oromo origin.bareento wrote:Yes Indeed!

And your obsession with a language classification is pure jiber jaber .....why not profess the same love for nilotic or san the way you do for bantu?
Re: Lets talk real history
Well I’m not well-read in the history of Adal or Ifat and the relationship between Awdal(Awdal been derived from Adal) and these Muslim kingdom's.But reading excerpts of Futuhul Habasha(conquest of Abbysinia), it seems Adal was mostly a Somali affair with various other unknown inhabitants(Afar and perhaps other Muslim populations).Ahmed Gureys closest relatives were Somali and the bulk of the force that invaded Abyssinia was composed of Somali clans and there chieftains which solidifies Adal as having major Somali influences. The first documented mention of the word “somali” was composed in a poem by Yeshaq an abbysinian emperor after successfully invading somali settlements in 1415 which is when the Ifat Kingdom was defeated and submitted to Abbysinian rule.I have not seen any mention of the Afar, frankly much of the Afars history is not well documented.Whatever the case its quite silly to dismiss or belittle the mammoth influence the Somali had on the Muslim sultanates, its well documented. The Oromo indeed starved Adal as it was told to me by an adari once, the gates of Harar were built for this reason due to the mass migration of Oromo to the areas after the Muslim/Abyssinian wars. They affected the Abyssinian provinces in a similar style.
Gara you tell me, don't be a simpleton the Somali and Abyssinian highlanders have been at war for centuries perhaps longer than before the Oromo entered the complex political environment of the Horn.Obviously we don't have to be clear about the more recent conflicts in the 19th, 20th, and in the current 21st century. It has never ceased. The Abyssinian’s have especially for us from the Ogaden caused immeasurable tribulation and strife. As for those in Somalia the single reason why they have not recovered from the civil war is Addisababa and the age-old policy of undermining a strong central Somali State.Mengistu said before he fell If Ethiopians should remember me(Mengistu) for anything know “that I have defeated your greatest enemy(Somalia 77)”.
Bareento still on the crusade, You Habash.
revisionist are those dissatisfied, so push a false narrative to cure there insecurities about others. On most instances this process is used for this purpose.

Bareento and Gara
Your revisionist attempts at Somali history will not be allowed to take place. You only mention Zeila, as if that was the only Adal town. What about Amoud, Awbarre, Abasa, these towns were older than Zeila. Amoud was the place the Amhara army ravaged and overturned the entire city burned it to the ground. Please give me one shred of evidence that Adal was an Arab setlltment
Look at Adal on this map

Plus the ancestor of the Gadabursi somalis was Shaykh Samaroon, and he was in the army that fought the Habashis and defeated them. The Oromos only got into the picture after years of warfare between the two sides.
Read this:

Afars walk around naked until this day, how silly it is for you to mention them as the inhabitants of these lands because we have no record of them being here.

RuralMan,
claim is a bases of somali oral tradition but it cannot be a historic prove.
U cannot cite a historic figure, claim being his descendent and affirm the empire was yours...
com on u can do better than that.

War Ruralman, your almost losing credibility my friend.

where did you get your information from? How long did it take you to make this over some cheap package software ?
Re: Lets talk real history
So rural you bring Dahl's creative map to prove a point.
but if must know the original meanig behind the term "Adal" i believe is Ad- Ali. Possibly there must be some kind of mythicsl claim by the afars of there ancestry?

Adal existed for a long time, it might have not been an empire in that sense but it definately did exist.Teeri wrote:

To prove what? I just posted it to show the clear and defined boundaries of Adal. The Afar are called in Somali, Oda Ali but they were very primitive warring clan and for centuries only vied with the Iise let alone any other Somali clan. Afars did live in Awdal but only as migrants.Gara Man wrote:So rural you bring Dahl's creative map to prove a point.![]()

Re: Lets talk real history
Thats your own interpretation of the name Adal. In our language Awdal is derived from 2 words.
Aw - Saint
Dal - Land or Country
Aw-dal = The Land/ Country of the Saints.
Just because one word is remotely related to or sounds like a word which means something in Afarinnya has no basis for real scholarly evidence. At the end of the day every proponent of their argument can have his or her own evidences!
Gara, like I said before there are more native names of Oromo origin in Awdal than Afar names.
