I personally would never take such a job, espeically in London, only because I could get a higher salary with just a good class degree.
But it depends on what course this particular individual gained their Ma or Msc from.

But on a real note, this person has no experience

yh basically he been in education since primary school up to university and hasnt hada placement year or anything like that in uni. he decided to do masters straight after his degree and finished it now.
he got job offer and he is like i want to check elsewhere but am like you know how job market is start working with them and look elsewhere but he like with masters i deserve more than 20k a year even though he hasnt got expereince in biochemistry related jobs.

btw course is biochemistry/technology something like that

Thats is a low pay, but I can understand a graduate without experience going for a 20k job in this economic climate. If he doesn't have any other offers he should take it, and for now focus on gaining experience and career development rather than the pay. Good luck to the bro.

Well I know someone who did MSc in Biotech and her starting salary was over £30K...if you have a masters degree, you should be earning well above £20K....unless it's BioChem and you're working for the NHS or something.

Best advice I can give the brother is to tell him is not all about pay.

Things he should consider

Progression? were his prespective bosses or senior management ever in his position, did they manage to progress.

Is the company progressive in terms of human resources? Good working hours, good holidays, flexi time etc

Is there a prayer room for salat

Whats the salary structure? rewards etc.

And to answer your question, yes that Ok starting pay for a first professional job after university, especially in the current climate. Dont be deluded by graduates who think they deserve a 30k + job, just cos they happen to attend 3 years of school and have a bsc or BA after their name.

yeah i fully understand you i was like at least get experience couple years then go else where if necessary but he is adamant that with a masters i should have a 24k job minimum
baring in mind he hast done no internship or placements while at uni
so its fresh from uni to work basically

plus it being in the Science sector i dont think the pay is as lucrative as financial or business sector unless your a senior manager etc

I know masters graduates doing three voluntary days of work every week and others working in shitty jobs. In the current climate, 20k is friggin sick for a graduate. Your friend is just a little spoilt.
