Look at djibouti. There is the answer.
A insignificant country ruled by bigger countries for the sake of our strategic location and port.

Saaxib we would still be insignifant. Without unity we would have any purpose. Our strive for unity with all areas that Somalis reside in, made it possible for us to aspire someday to become a superpower.DatBreh wrote:Djibouti is insignificant by default, a small area with a popualtion of 800kCoeus wrote:Look at djibouti. Ogaden,NFD,Italian Somaliland,British Somaliland,French Somaliland, Socotra.
We would have so many Resources and such big power in the horn. Even if Djibouti is closed door for us now. Ogaden,Socotra and even NFD is still possible

Somaliland wouldve been the greatest country in the horn our fathers from the 60s made the biggest mistake if only SNL Cigaals party wouldve lost the elections and Micheal mariano could win the elections and his NUF party today Somaliland would be a recognized country

You would have take many variables into consideration between 1960-1991.
Primary
-Cold war and the enfluence of USA and USSR.
One possible path could have been that British.somaliland sided with the USA and Italian.Somaliland sided with the USSR. The two countries could have been used as proxy agents and encouraged into a war.
The main benefit of the two countries backing different powers would have been their leverage/bargaining power to extract greater funds and assistance with development and technology. similar to that seen in korea perhabs.
We will never know, however neither success nor failure of states would have been a shared experience past 20 years is evidence of a shared experience.

Saaxib, due to the british minimal invovment in North Somalia, there was almost no infrastructure in hargeisa and other towns.The_Emperior5 wrote:Somaliland wouldve been the greatest country in the horn our fathers from the 60s made the biggest mistake if only SNL Cigaals party wouldve lost the elections and Micheal mariano could win the elections and his NUF party today Somaliland would be a recognized country

Re: What would the Horn of Africa look like if....
The last 40years has shown that 2 of the 5 Somali regions cannot coexist so thinking of what Greater Somalia can achieve is futile in my eyes, it would be great though.Coeus wrote:Saaxib we would still be insignifant. North would be like Eritrea since it has more resources than Djibouti to begin with, but it would obviously have a limited economy based on minerals alone. South would probably be like Tanzania; huge metropolitan Xamar plus some oil and mineral wealth.
