Ethiopia: ONLF Vows Its Fight Against Govt Will Continue

Asmara — Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) on Sunday proclaimed that it will carry on its fight against Ethiopian government.

Hussein Mohammed Nur, ONLF's head of information, told Shabelle that the front held a meeting in Asmara discussing what they had succeeded so far.

Mr, Nur added that the meeting was part of their annual conference to redouble efforts to liberate the mainly ethnic Somali region in eastern Ethiopia.

"The officials of Ogaden National Liberation Front agreed to continue their battle against Ethiopia" Nur was quoted by Shabelle as saying.

He pointed out they killed 3,000 soldier from Ethiopian military forces in 2010 battles.

Ethiopia designated the ONLF as terrorist group saying it had links with Eritrea.

For its part, ONLF charges Ethiopia commits routine mass killings against Somalis in the Ogaden region.

Months ago, the rebel group claimed Ethiopian military forces killed 235 Somali civilians. Ethiopian officials dismissed the claim.

ONLF split into two factions after some of its members signed a deal with Ethiopia last month. The government said the peace deal was aimed at ending 20 years of war with a guerilla faction that has been fighting for liberation of the Ogaden region.
