Somalia: AU Launches Police Training for Somalia Forces

Post by Coeus »

Nairobi — The African Union Mission for Somalia (AMISOM) on Tuesday inaugurated a Police Training Initiative in Kenya in support of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia, the AU Commission said in a press release issued here.

"192 Junior and Mid-Level Management Officers of the Somali Police Force will undergo refresher training by AMISOM police mentors at the Kenya Wildlife Training School in Manyani, a facility made available by the Kenyan Government," said the AU.

AMISOM is mandated to train, mentor, monitor and advise the Somali Police Force to build it into a credible police force adhering to international standards.

The Commission said that AMISOM instructors will offer lessons in Community Policing, Human Rights, Logistics and Management to the Somali Police Officers.

The AMISOM course is designed to enhance their professionalism and skills.

"I have no doubts in my mind that the AMISOM Police Trainers have the professional competence to deliver on our mandate in Somalia," said Boubacar Diarra, Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia (SRCC).

According to APA, AMISOM has currently around 5,500 peacekeeping forces in Somalia helping the TFG of Somalia in stabilizing the country, which remained without central government for the past 19 years.
