. I dont like the interrogation nature of the Sharia Council, should the number of times a man hits you make difference when seeking a divorce?

Re: Sharia Council
SMH they're both Somalis, I hope that's only because the co-writer/producer of that is Somali.
It's not really that bad, the questions you'd probably get asked if you went to any intermediary and it's good that they're trying to keep the couples together. Lakin how will that first couple remain married? Either the husband is an unscrupulous liar who swore on Allah's name in vain or the wife is a drama loving liar who accused her husband of something he didn't do and pushed the lie so far as to take him to a Sheikh. Waa a very unhealthy relationship either way. But other than the lady's facepalm and the guy stumbling through his vow, neither of them seems to mind.
Also the second one didn't seem too bothered about getting hit to be honest. "If you push him too much he will crack"
From her language and the way she explained it, her husband doesn't seem like a violent person, just a lazy guy who obviously has confidence issues and trouble expressing himself. Seems like she pushed until he pushed back.

Re: Sharia Council
It seems they mostly deal with Civic matters, just like he said. I think it is nice, I'd definitely see a Shaykh and Sharia Council in these sort of issue and others. I thought the girl was Somali with the black hijab, I don't know about the 1st couple though, they could be Eriterian, Ethiopian, Sudani or even Yemeni.
I don't think the hitting part was in accordance with the interrogation, it seems like he just wanted to know so he can get a better picture. Ofcourse it matters the number of times a man hit, if it was once and he did it after you hit him (one slap sort of thing) then that would be a of a lesser importance, than say he hits you all most everyday and it is sever beatings. Generally ladies who are beaten up badly, rarely have the courage to seek divorce.

Re: Sharia Council
I think what they are doing is very important and needed in the muslim communities everywhere. The only real issue is that it's only legitmacy is based on the person's faith and his piety. Even if you take the worse spouse to sharia court and they do come to some kind of mediation that both sides are happy with, there is no legal means in which to enforce it. Unlike, if there was an Islamic government where the courts could enforce any such verdict. But at the same time I think this is a very good thing, and Insha'allah with the help of Allah they will expand it. Expand it by offering marriage counseling, follow-ups, and getting systems in place to hopefully encourage the verdicts to be implemented.

Re: Sharia Council
I found the second woman in the niqab interesting, especially at her spoken English, her calm demeanor, and resoluteness for getting the divorce, this was something of just a formality for her. Shes obviously has grown up in UK, wears the niqaab, and knows what she wants.
The first couple are hilarious, so she claims that he divorced her verbally, and his claim was that he didn't mean it. Ok, so they've estabilished that they are divorced, but what does that mean. Did she want a divorce and this was her way of getting what she wanted and now she can say to her husband see you divorced me? Is she going to seek divorce now that they know what their status is? Or are they going to find a way to work things out?

Re: Sharia Council
I just noticed why is this in the woman's section?
Re: Sharia Council
The producers are not Somali, its just random that they happen to be Somalis because Sharia Council is a popular option now. But i have never liked the way they tackle violence from previous videos i watched, it is not upto the sheikh to decide that the husband does not "terrorise" her because he hit her once only. He is not an expert on the psychology of violent men and cannot guarantee that she wont be hit again, it is better to ask whether violence is part of the marriage and if it is one of the reasons for wanting a divorce, simple as.
I hope the guy is not lying for his own sake.

I am sure the lady spoke Somali at the beginning.Warsan_Star_Muslimah wrote:It seems they mostly deal with Civic matters, just like he said. Re: Sharia Council
She could be Somali, but then she writes in Arabic and could be Arab. I thought the second lady was Somali from the way she said alxamdulilah, but was not sure.BlackVelvet wrote:Isn't that a typical Somali name?Mona Mahmood and Richard Sprenger

Re: Sharia Council
True. I guess if she were to answer 'Yes' as Violence being part of the marriage, then it would mean it is regular, anyways.
This is my first video. Perhaps, you should contact them! The Sharia Council and speak about the issue of violence, and how they should get a proper psychologist (assuming they don't have that) to help them in 'abusive' cases.
BV,
I thought she was Arab, I clicked on her name and saw loads of Arabic writings, I think those were her articles.
PO,
I thought it wasn't allowed?

Re: Sharia Council
Women judges aren't allowed? Walal I don't know about that, I would have to ask someone noticeable. But if it isn't, or there isn't a strong evidence that it is, I would love to see more women go into that field of Islamic Jurisprudence.
In the United States you can have parties agree to have a mediator between them, and what ever that mediator agree's to becomes legally binding on the agreed parties. This for example could be excellent for Sharia councils in the United states to take advantage of, so long as the parties sign a contract in the beginning. Do they have something like this in the UK?

Re: Sharia Council
They look Somali lol. He's proper whipped anyway; Firstly by getting shouted out by his women, and on video and in front of a Sheikh. Must be Eritrean
But seriously whats the argument he said he didn't mean to divorce her, why is she holding him to his word? Unless she wants the divorce.
