Next Presidential election will be held in Mogadishu
Somali Capital of Mogadishu Plans Presidential Elections by End of August
Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, will hold a presidential election before the end of August, said Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan, the speaker of parliament.
“There will be a committee that organizes the presidential elections including the African Union,” the six-nation Intergovernmental Authority on Development and the United Nations, Adan said in a statement read by Awad Ahmed Ashara, a spokesman for parliament, in the city today.
The Western-backed Transitional Federal Government of Somalia’s mandate is scheduled to expire in August. Last month, Somali lawmakers announced they would extend parliament’s tenure for three more years, even after the government failed to enact a new constitution or organize elections. President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has called for a review of the extension, while Adan has said lawmakers won’t reverse the decision.
Most of southern and central Somalia has been seized by the Islamist al-Shabaab militia since it began a campaign against the government in 2007, while President Sheikh Sharif’s administration controls only parts of Mogadishu, backed by African Union peacekeepers. The U.S. accuses al-Shabaab of having links to al-Qaeda.
The UN has said it regrets the decision by parliament to extend its mandate and wants the TFG replaced by a new body. Somalia hasn’t had a functioning central administration since the ouster of former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.

Yep, TFG is about end. The transitional period bye bye. Its time for permanent fixed government with constitution. May Allah give us dowlad khair badan on August. Hopefully by August Mudane Farmaajo will make it work, hopefully he would secure the country if not the capital, finished the constitution, restablishing government institutions etc and if all that is done by August, things then will look bright inshallah
You can listen to Farmaajo's plan towards August in VOA Somali website. Farmaajo the saviour of Somalia ilaahi ha kula garab galo, ilaahi baa awood leh

If you watch the recent UN security meeting, both Farmaajo and all the representatives said the parliament has to be changed including the speaker before the presidential elections.

Yeah Farmaajo said that on July New Parliament Speaker has to be elected and on August New President. I just hope they dissolve this current 550 MP's and Farmaajo and his cabinet select around 130-150 new MP's with qualification just before July.Voltage wrote:If you watch the recent UN security meeting, both Farmaajo and all the representatives said the parliament has to be changed including the speaker before the presidential elections.

Bring it on! I will support the decline of MP's. Heck there was 130 MP's in Kacaan government.Voltage wrote:From what I heard the new parliamentarians are going to be under 100.

Good progress. This PM seems less corrupt and actually wants to do some hard work. BUT im not going to put all my hopes on Somali presidents like a did with shikh delxiis. Time will tell.XimanJaale wrote:Yep, TFG is about end. The transitional period bye bye. Its time for permanent fixed government with constitution. May Allah give us dowlad khair badan on August.
