Super-Moon To Appear on Saturday Night

Post by IRONm@N »

'Supermoon' To Be 14 Percent Larger In Appearance

CINCINNATI -- The moon won't actually be any bigger Saturday night, but it might look bigger and almost certainly brighter.

The moon will be at its closest distance to Earth in the last 18 years, but the last time it got this close, it wasn't in the full moon stage over the Tri-State.

Dean Regas at the Cincinnati Observatory said that moon watchers will want to find a relatively flat horizon free from trees and buildings to the east.

Regas said the moon is due to rise at about 8:10 p.m. Saturday, so watchers should find their spot before 8 p.m. Regas said the moon will appear about 14 percent larger and as much as 30 percent brighter than a regular full moon.

Tips: How To Photograph The Moon

Regas said Ault Park, Alms Park and Mt. Echo Park would likely have good views to the east to observe the moonrise within Cincinnati.

Skies are expected to be mostly clear, with temperatures slightly cooler than the past couple of days.

If you take any photos of the "supermoon," be sure to add them to our u local Lunar photos.
