Former Somali Defense Minister Mohamed Abdi Mohamed said he has been named president of Jubaland, a proposed semi-autonomous region in southwestern Somalia, Bloomberg reported April 4. The proposed Jubaland Initiative seeks to partition from Somalia the regions of Gedo, Lower Juba and Middle Juba, which comprise 1.3 million people.
