Gunman Kills Five In Netherlands Shooting

Share CommentsA gunman killed at least five people at a shopping centre in the Netherlands before turning the gun on himself, officials say.

The incident took place in the town of Alphen aan den Rijn, 13 miles (21km) southwest of Amsterdam.

"There are at present six dead, including the person responsible," acting mayor Bas Eenhoorn told a news conference.

"A man with an automatic weapon opened fire on the crowd which was packed with families and children doing their shopping," he said.

He said the man had acted alone, but did not identify him. Witnesses described him as looking around 20 years old.

"It's hardly credible that our town could experience such slaughter, and on a day as beautiful as this," said Mr Eenhoorn.

He added that he was deeply shocked and offered his condolences to relatives of the victims.

Four people were seriously injured and at least seven less badly hurt, the acting mayor said.

There was mass panic in the shopping centre before it was evacuated and the area around it cordoned off.

As long as the perpetrator isn't black/muslim all is well. Let someone else take bad media for a change.

Funny, how they (Dutch Authorities) arrested 12 somali men un suspicion of terrorism on Christmas eve 2010, all of them were later found not guilty. Today its one of them (a white blonde Dutch man) who actually harmed people. Karma's a bitch. On the other hand, Netherlands used to be one of the safest countries in Europe as i remember it, its virtually impossible for a civilian to obtain a gun. Feel sorry for the victims families though.
