Where should Somalia's Reconciliation Conference be held?

Post by Monk-of-Mogadishu »

Since people have strong and different opinions on this, I think we should take a poll and have a discussion.

Note - This is just about the Reconciliation Conference scheduled for August of this year.

zup hyper!

somalia doesn't need more fake conferences. This never ending cycle has to stop @ one point.

in my opinion, the best approach is be to have regional conference(s) for the south. Then, and only then we can talk about national reconciliations, etc. Peaceful Mogadishu in one hand means the end of Somalia turmoil.

Last conference's fruits:
a. overwhelming majority of the parliamentarians, including the speaker cannot visit their constituencies
b. a president that was hand picked by non-somalis
c- 2 prime ministers who never set foot on somali soil for over 20 years.

If this is somalia's reconciliation without UN or any other foreigners , then it should be held in Xamar.
But if its another treasonous crime( like those before) against the somali nation then i dont care wherever its held.
The outcome will be failure.

Garowe,

Because Garowe's sheer tranquility may inspire the leaders from other Somali regions (especially the South) to stop wars and start building their cities like Garowe.

I like this statement.

When Tarzan visited Garowe in December for the soccer tourney he went back a changed man. Other Somali leaders will definitely take a cue. Can you imagine if every clan built a city like Garowe, the whole country would be a bit better and people wouldn't fight anymore. I really want Garowe to go on showcase and demonstrate to the rest of the nation how to improve their situation. People as far away as Jilib and Buur Hakaba probably don't know that such peaceful bastions exist in Somalia.

Who will be involved in the reconciliation?

Will there be outside parties involved?

And what is the track record of those that will be taking part in the reconciliation?

As long as ethiopia is present (and its unlikely they won't be) it wouldn't be a reconciliation.

Djibouti is the best bet. :dj:

Does it even matter? What's there to reconcile? I don't really see the point of it.
