Re: Somalia/south unique way of telling time
I never understood that method, like 6 is 12 oclock or something like that

Re: Somalia/south unique way of telling time
I think its how somalis used to tell time back in the days. The time starts when fajr starts, so the first hour of the day (hal saac) is when the sun rises.

Re: Somalia/south unique way of telling time
They don't do that in the north? Here I was thinking it was the same all over the country.
By the way I think they do it in parts of Ethiopia too.

Re: Somalia/south unique way of telling time
I hate it, because it always confuses me. I think I'm just used to the English time-telling, so the Somali one confuses me.
Hal-sac is 7 in the morning? .....But I completely forgot what 19:00 is in SS(South Somalia)? Is it the same, Hal-Sac? Wasn't 17:00 Tooban-iyo-kow-sac?
To be honest I think I just tell the time in English.

I think they say, Hal-Sac dhabarta/habeenimo
Meaning 7:00pm in the night.
Qoraxeey,
Yes I was born and bred in Xamar, but left at a very young age, I've lived most of my life in England. Hence, why I like it the Northern way.
I'm not afraid to say that I like the Northern way of telling the time regardless of where I'm from. Taste is taste.

LOL
I always have to double check myself before I tell a person what time it is in Somali. I can't it's todobo when it's 7 O'clock. Instead waa hal saac. Same thing with 11 Oçlock, waa shantii!
