What is your local Masjid like?

Post by Kukri »

and how do you keep focus during prayer?

I use two different mosque, but there is one that i prefere over the other. The only reason is one of the imam is a somali brother but that is not the only reason. The way this brother read the qur'an (his voice) is beyond this world and anything i have ever heard. When this brother is leading the prayer it's not that hard to keep focus, as i often find myself closing my eyes and let the sound carry me away. Like a seasoned buddhist monk in deep meditation i can literally feel every word going through me like an adrenaline rush as it travel through every nook and cranny of my being (mind, body and soul).

The only drawback to this experience is when that brother isn't leading the prayer i find my mind going on a walk about. Or i find myself comapring the voice of the somali brother to the imam leading the prayer at that time, trying to find faults. And then when we in prosptration (ruku) as i read...subhana rabbial adheema wa bihamdih"..trying to focus on what am saying..then off i go again...1,2,3,4,5,6...'ok, come back now kukri you have no bussines in going to those rooms, now focus, focus...pick a spot and concentrate, what were you holding on to before you went wondering off? oh, the black spot right in front, no thats not working for you, try the brown one, that seem to agree with your nature more..and am back again but then before i know it, my eye cough something on my left,..and what do you know, Frodo's feet! a hobbit right next to me.

So how do you brothers/sisters keep focus during prayers?

Is it easy for you or do you also find sometime hard to concentrate?

Concenrating during salad is fine, but there is a lot of tension at my mosque   Its a mess, there is contently arguments, disputes and issues.

The disputes have been over mosque management, money, race tentions (arabs vs asians). One of the guys who attend the mosque regularly was banned awhile ago and they got security at the mosque to stop him pray in the mosque. He was giving lectures at the mosque for about 10 years and he is a wealthy guy, he buys iftar for everyone throughout ramadan and also spends a lot on the mosque and its activities in general. About a year ago a new management were elected, they took the guy to court in order to ban him, the court ordered a 6 months temporary ban from the mosque until investigations were going on. I don't know the details of the court case, but last week the 6 month ban expired and they didn't find anything after looking at CCTV recordings and his personal recordings. The whole court case was a secret, the management never told anyone, everyone was shocked when they found out what was going on.He was there listening to a lecture and the management stormed in and told him to leave the mosque, he said to to them "this is the house of allah, if you have the courage to ban me again stand at the mimbar and say it"
