Would you say that to look beautiful one must have specific features in specific ratios? Miss Universe is a glorified beauty pageant that went out of control. The basic message to people all around the world is, to be attractive or beautiful, you have to tick the boxes on their arbitrary list. The shade of skin might have become more inclusive in recent years but nothing more has changed. If you look at the winners through the years they more or less look the same. It creates a standard where everyone is supposed to look European. That point aside, programmes like these make people obsessed with physical appearance. Where impressionable youngsters and self conscious adults are made to feel that they have to change themselves to fit into the predetermined, static and often racist definition of beauty to gain social acceptance. This mentality promoted by pop culture, celebrity culture and started off by beauty pageants is what modern day plastic surgery is built on. And that my friend is why I think these shows should be outlawed.

well said,i agree , but am afraid its too late right now the miss universe and miss world are like the Olympics of beauty you see all the countries in the world participating. even islamic countries are there. this people have made it feel as if it now a must for all countries to field a contestant, i have seen instances where African countries field white girls like Namibia, south Africa etc in desperation to win so sad.
