First this isn't a joking thread and is very serious.

I'm just wondering do We have a serious problem in our community when it comes to this? I dunno some sort of chemical imbalance or something. I can't help but notice how many Somalis I see who fall into bouts of this, and it is not a coincidence anymore. I know every race has this but it seems its more pronounced in Somalis or is it just my community? What Have You Guys seen? Lets discuss.

it's more than obvious, but the bigger question is, do Somalis accept this notion?

No. I don't think we have such issues in our community. In fact, Somalis are by far amongst one of the smartest communities around the globe. Given that foreigners stop mingling into our business and stop instigating between Somalis, we can overcome any hardship. Despite the fact that we went thru 21 years of Civil War and still counting, despite the fact that we went thru countless droughts, diseases and whatnot, we still manage to live in a good standard of living in Somalia and across the World.

Our only problem is hatred for one another. We suffer from that which the Bani'Israel suffer from, which is the love of TRIBALISM.

I thought you were describing Ximan, Voltage and Kow at first walee

As for the topic, I haven't seen anyone that could be classified as being bi polar. When it comes to mental health I have come across a few in my lifetime but not in a sense that made me wonder why we have a high amount of 'mentally ill people' in my community like you do. From my experiences, those affected are said to be suffering because of the war in the late 80's and others in the 90's. However, none have been taken to a hospital by the family. They just let them roam around and others will flat out deny that they are crazy and need medical help. It's so bad that I have known a certain individual that hated a certian clan. The clan that he hated has complained to the mans family on a lot of occasions telling them that they need to get him help as he was not normal. They have denied all of their accusations and in the end, he killed the wife of the clan he disliked. His intentions were to kill her husband and kids.

As for the remedies, families tend to send the individual who needs medical help back home and get him married to a young girl.

Somalis think its shame to talk about mental illness, or they think its weakness to admit depression or stress, so it goes underreporter or taboo, but it exist, I don't think there is more in Somali ppl, its just that the going through a lot, with the social fabric collapse, war taurama, and immigrations.

The blues hit the clever type of Somalis. Stupid ones are never depressed because depression is the result of an over-active cortex whose rapid motion give off brilliant sparks that shoot up in the night sky and kiss the stars.

When was the last time you saw a fish with a long face?

Do u understand what mental health issue is? What does being smart have to do with the chances of suffering from those diseases?

OP True Somalis are more susceptible to suffering from some form of post traumatic stress disorder for what they have been thru the last two decades and some sort of depression but not necessarily bipolar. And the worst part of being a Somali person with mental health issue is the stigma attached to the whole notion.

^ Wine is good for depression. I can vouch for that. Let me take you out for a drink at the Mouth of the Jaad-Muncher Bar.
