The Somali Aeronautical Corps was the name of the Somali Air Force during the pre-independence (1954–1960) period. After 1960, when Somalia gained independence, the name changed to the Somali Air Force. The SAF at one point had the strongest airstrike capability in the Horn of Africa.

The Somali Air Force was established before Somalia's independence, and was at first equipped with a small number of Western aircraft, including Beech 18s and C-47 Dakotas for transport tasks, a few Piaggio P.148 trainers, P-51D Mustangs used as fighters, and a pair of Bell 47 Sioux helicopters.

On October 15, 1969, while paying a visit to the northern town of Las Anod, Somalia's then President Abdirashid Ali Shermarke was shot dead by one of his own bodyguards. His assassination was quickly followed by a military coup d'état on October 21, 1969 (the day after his funeral), in which the Somali Army seized power without encountering armed opposition — essentially a bloodless takeover. The push was spearheaded by Major General Mohamed Siad Barre, who at the time commanded the army. Barre then proclaimed Somalia to be a socialist state, and rapid modernization programs soon followed suit. Numerous Somali airmen were subsequently sent to train abroad in countries such as the United States, Italy, the Soviet Union, and the United Kingdom. After their training, many of these men went on to become the nation's leading instructors and fighter pilots. The Somali Air Force was at this time considered to be among the very best air forces on the continent.

First of all Shire Jaamac was not in the committee to choose the script in 60's because it would have been unfair. His script was in competition representing Latin. Shire's claim to writing Somali script isn't because he was part of the final committee in 1972. As early as 1964, non Somalis were using Shire's Somali script as the unofficial best indigenous script to write Af-Somali.



You are confused between the committe that actually chose which one of the scripts for Somalis, versus the scripts that were competing (Shire's Latin, Arabic, Kaddare, Osmania, etc).

Secondly, every Somali knows Cali Mataan was the first Somali to fly and he built and was the only head of the Somali air force from 1960 and until his death. Ku lahaa, in 1960 hebel was flying hebel. Do you know even the first flight in independent Somalia in 1960 between Hargeisa and Mogadishu was called Cali Mataan airways in honor of him?

The first somali pilot trainee which was send to Italy was not 1957, actually it was 3 years before that 1954. and LATE cali xaanshi was not even part of that.

Thirdly, even before official capacity Cali Mataan was the first to fly unofficially inside of Somalia and you say Siad Barre made him Taliyaha Ciidanka Cirka when in 1963, this former Somali pilot references Cali Mataan as their commander of the airforce and always says that the first Somali national flight between Hargeisa and Mogadishu was called Cali Mataan airways

Gudiga did not write Somali! Gudiga was choosing which one of the scripts would be chosen. Many were in competition from Shire modified Latin to Arabic to Kaddare to Osmaniya, etc. The committe's job was only to choose which one would become the national script, they didn't write the scripts in competition. Arabic was Arabic, latin was the one modified by Shire, Kaddare was made by Sheikh Ahmed Kaddare, Osmaniya was made by ina Kenadadid.

You need to separate the "committee" (guddi) that was to choose among the scripts and the actual brains behinds the scripts. Your problem is lack of inability to differentiate such protocol.
