Don't worry somalis being very innovative will come up with solutions.

Seemeyer
I think you are wrong; it is us somalis who need to clean houses; we should follow the laws and regulations and be transparent when we are conducting a business endeavour. The Hawalas are not that transparent; those who use it are good hardworking people while the owners are not.

Re: No more sending money to Somalia
It will be certainly a big blow. I remember what happened when Al-Barakat was freezed. But, I think regulations are needed. We somalis need to grow and realise that you cannot engage in a money transfer business and not be transparent.
Seeyemer, of course there is a political dimension. True, most of the money sent through Hawalas go to needy people. It comes also from hardworking somalis. But, the hawalas should follow the laws of the countries they function from and be transparent.

Shift lol.
Ok, I retract and change the sentence into " those who it are generally hardworking". Seriously, we the users are not crooks who acquired the money we are sending through wrongful means. But, the Hawalas are generally run by people who are not transparent and don't keep books.

If you read the article it says
And that they have complied with whatever was required of them
Now these gaalos want to move the goal posts agian
Maxaa kalee hadhey "put a hiiden camera on the actual money"

This goes to show that these Xawaalds already have bank accounts with "reputable" banksAmerican banks do not want to be in the position of inadvertently helping to fund terrorism

Re: No more sending money to Somalia
Seeyemer,
I don't know about the USA but in Europe, the xawaala agents are individuals - many of them unemployed- and they don't pay taxes, employ people or have an office (some of them use so called a room in the Jaaliya buildings). Their current accounts have transactions. It does not care an Einstein to see that there is something fishy.
Dahabshil and only one other Xawaalah passed a litmus test done by the financial authorities of northern europe.

Saaxib, it is a simple equation; if one is engaged in financial transactions then register it and be clean.
