The Indians are successful because they have brains. You wouldn't know anything about that.

Re: The Walmart of East Africa
Your insults fall flat sxb. They sound like something a witless first grader would say. I'm not surprised though, the first grade is about your level of cognitive development.
Carry on worrying about transnational Indian supermarkets while your people can't even dominate the caano bore market they're so dependent on.

Tanzania is dominated by South African supermarket chain Shoprite. Its much larger than Nakumatt.

So far (Nakumatt) they have expanded to Uganda and Kenya and bearing in mind they had only around 2 stores in Nairobi in 2000 circa.SheikhExecutive wrote:Tanzania is dominated by South African supermarket chain Shoprite. Its much larger than Nakumatt.
So its more of how successful they have grown in the past decade and turning into a a giant.

Re: The Walmart of East Africa
I have been to Nakumat and shopped their, but their stuff is expensive and most Kenyans prefer to show at Garissa lodge in Islii. That is why Somalis are driving away Indians, they are the only ones competiting with them in East Africa

It depends on what you go to Isli to buy electronics or clothes.IRONm@N wrote:I have been to Nakumat and shopped their, but their stuff is expensive and most Kenyans prefer to show at Garissa lodge in Islii. Nakumaat has a diversity of stuff they sell from furniture which somalis hadly sell, food stuff ,clothes, electronics.
The moral of the story is even though somalis are enterprenuers and are doing business in EA, they are not the top dogs in Business.
In Kenya the hierachy is as follows from the top to bottom: Cadaan, Indians,Kikuyus then Somalis then other Kenyans.
-Cadaan (mostly descendants of the colonialists (Tourist industry and largest shareholders in major service and construction industry etc))
-Indians mostly descendants of immigrants of the 1930's-40's ( they have the media, major hospitals, schools, manufacturing industry(timber, factories etc) they are in the mining industry and also professionals like lawyers, doctors ,acountants etc.
-Kikuyus well they are in most of the industries and have monopoly in it one of the wealthy folks include Uhuru Kenyatta who is worth £500million and the list is endless.
-Somalis Kudos to them but I prefer if they did not display their wealth too much in the open its like resembling AA singers when they become successfull(like gold chain and diamond teeth etc). I hope they dont make themselves too visible and be susceptible to hate crimes.

Re: The Walmart of East Africa
I think your being a bit unfair to the somalis. We don't have culture of commercialism and even though entrepreneurship is in our blood, we haven't been doing it for very long, especially not as long as long as hindi. They have been there longer, they also have a base to operate and move from i.e. india. A lot of these are middle-class indians that have the money and maybe already have businesses in india and decide to move to places like kenya and south africa etc. Also there are like more than a billion indians in the world compared to 20 mill somalis tops. I doesn't help either that we are very lazy people.The_Patriot wrote:It depends on what you go to Isli to buy electronics or clothes.IRONm@N wrote:I have been to Nakumat and shopped their, but their stuff is expensive and most Kenyans prefer to show at Garissa lodge in Islii.
