.Seychelles President James Michel and President Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo of the Republic of Somaliland have discussed the transfer of convicted Somali pirates currently in prison in Seychelles, to Somaliland to service their sentences.
The two leaders signed a joint statement to recognize their joint concern about the serious impact piracy has on the region and on international security, and agreed that it is vital to ensure pirates are brought to justice.
President Silanyo confirmed that both the Council of Ministers and Somaliland Parliament had now approved and passed the piracy and prisoner transfer legislation to allow the transfer of convicted pirates.
“This commitment between the Seychelles and Somaliland represents an important step forward in the development of a sustainable regional justice mechanism, that will see suspected pirates apprehended by naval forces at sea, prosecuted by regional states, and if convicted, imprisoned in the region”, said the statement from the two leaders.

Seychelles is off the cost of Kenya and Tanzania. If any pirates exist, they are probably southerners, why would the Somaliland be willing to take that burden?

Because Somaliland is affected by those same pirates actions, they recently hijacked a Somaliland ship off the coast of Oman. I see no reason to turn down this offer when we will get economic benefits from it in the form of the international community funding big prisons and equiping our navy.

It's all interconnected. It's one of the reason why UK has upped it's aid to Somaliland. Previously Norway has also funded a prison for pirates in Hargeysa.

"the UK will provide up to £105 million in development support to Somaliland to promote prosperity, tackle poverty and consolidate progress on stability and democracy."

SMH.You are starting to sound pathetic and bitter like much of your ilk. Are you trying to compare needy refuuges who are in risk of dying of famine to putting few pirates in prisons? it's two completely different things.

So is the 105 million going to promote prosperity, tackle poverty, and consolidate progress, or is it going to Prisons and Pirates? choose one

Reread properly waryaahe ee yeelyeeylka iyo ciyaalniimada iska dhaaf piracy is under the progress on stability category. Since piracy has the potential to make our seas unstable and disturb important trade routes of ours. How it will be distributed in the different fields is another matter.

Sicid, I know beggers can't be choosers, but don't take this as any real aid. Watch Somaliland design it's whole budget with the hope of that money, and next thing you know, they will put stipulations on that aid, saying you have to work with Somalia from now on, or no money for you. Think about it.

That is bull. Aid is not included in our national budget, it's mainly from port, airport and other revenues in the country. Meeshu ma landlocked Gedo ayaad uu mooday.
