yemen traditions say: the man who discovered it was a sheepherder who was walking with his flocks in some area from sanaa. probably, one of his flocks must have been mistaken khat with other grass. he started going back and forth,on side, the other side. probably, was a high. now the sheepherder loved it and wanted to be an effective as well so he found out where this flock were getting it from and started its consumtion
i have never been to yaman, but they are big community here in the UK,. the difference is that they chew khat at work just as takhzeen, this would make them very energetic and effective while the somali chew it when he is bored to feel marqaan. for yemenis, they wouldnt do this sh1t if they were getting into daily marqaan, they would not get off their plans in life, their khat chewer is a hard worker, succesful, healthy. the somali love with the khat is one sided, they would do evry thing for khat, forget their children, wives, healthy
