Living in Seattle, the two most prominent Muslim communities are Somali and Cham. Have you ever heard of these people, the Cham? What a great people Mashallah. Great culture, food, and people. They have introduced Somalis to Vietnamese/Cambodian food but entirely of Halal variety and traditions. Somalis have grown to appreciate the interaction with Cham Muslims like a traveler would with his traveling group and intermarriage between the two communities has started to move forward.

The Cham have suffered a lot. Their Muslim Champa Kingdom in what is today southern Vietnam was boxed in by the VIetnamese and the Khamers until they were destroyed and they became exiles in Cambodia. During the Khmer Rouge, they were the ethnic group that suffered the most because of their Muslim identity which was considered a threat by the Khmer Rouge. Also during the Vietnam War, they joined the war against the communists and were also attacked.
