Abdulrahim Abby Farah was born on October 22, 1919. He graduated from University College, Exeter at Oxford University in England. He served in various capacities in the Somali government from 1951 to 1961, including as Director of the Somali Information Service. From 1961 to 1965, he served as Somali Ambassador to Ethiopia. In 1962, Ambassador Farah represented Somalia in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). In 1964 and 1965, Ambassador Farah represented Somalia at Council of Ministers meetings in the Organization of Africa Unity (OAU). During most of the period from 1965 to 1972, Ambassador Farah served as Somalia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York City, including serving as Chairperson of the UN Special Committee Against Apartheid from 1969 to 1972 and presiding over a special session of the Security Council in 1972.[1] Ambassador Farah served as Assistant Secretary-General for Special Political Questions from 1973 to 1978 and as Undersecretary-General for Special Political Questions from 1979 to 1990.
