I have a friend who is engaged and has been for several months. She has a older sister who is unmarried and not in a relationship. Her family is saying she can't get married until after her older sister does, that it will make the family look bad otherwise. Is this common culturally for Somalis?

What would you say her options are?

There are many.

Barge into the fella's kitchen now, like a sassy, strong thing, or stay cooking daddy's food till further notice, like the good girl you were raised to be.

That's an old tradition. Don't see why the parents care at this day and age.

I know a chick who is in that exact position. She's Bengali though.

That is new to me, m not sure if it is part of Somali culture, it might be a sub culture.

her options? limited unless she want to think out side the box and force the family to accept her marriage, there r many ways to do.
