Singapore’s government places 90th in the world for its standards of democracy, but first for the effectiveness of its government. With no significant regime change in more than four decades, its political system is highly stable… High respect for the rule of law and an extremely effective regulatory environment instil great confidence in the populace, resulting in the lowest level of perceived corruption within government and business worldwide. An extremely high 99 per cent of all Singaporeans report confidence in their national government. Citizens also have the highest level of confidence in the military and judicial system of any country. Although only 13 per cent report having voiced their opinion to a public official in 2008, approximately 95 per cent of Singaporeans think the electoral process is honest.

Singapore ranked 17th overall on the 2010 Legatum Prosperity Index, but finished among the top 10 on several sub-indices. It ranked sixth as an economy, took eighth spot for entrepreneurship and opportunity, and was rated the fifth safest country.
