Somaliland's external political enemies & friends

It is time we get to know the external enemies & friends of Somaliland instead of the usual internal local politics.

Which countries do you think have not hided their hatred for the noble Somaliland cause many times?

From what i have seen i would say in my own analyzes .

Enemies.

1. Egypt - they support the idea of a united Somalia for their own interests namely the nile river, in hopes of using a united Somalia as a proxy against Ethiopia
in the nile dispute (which will not happen anyway) . It sucks for the onion eating fat Egyptians.

2. Italy - Whatever weird reason they might have.

3.Saudi Arabia - to some extent.

4.Eritrea - Like Egypt they are in the hopes of a united Somalia for their own interests namely against Ethiopia.

5. North Sudan - They much like Egypt have the same policies of a united Somalia. They feel more bitter and weakened now that they have lost South Sudan
a oil rich area.

Friends.

1. United Kingdom - although it does it indirectly however it initiated some of the current talks between Somaliland and Somalia which could clarify our future
relations once and for all. In addition they are one of the major countries that support Somaliland militarily and in development such as easing up trade/investment
with the outside world without formal recognition.

2. Djibouti previously a hostile nation but now has nearly turned 90 degrees when they realised a united peaceful Somalia is more of a threat and will overshadow
tiny Djibouti than a recognized Somaliland. As of now they have started to accept Somaliland passports and other demands.

3. Malaysia - A formerly neutral country had no hostilities towards Somaliland sovereignty and accepted Somaliland students who travel to Malaysia
when they get their scholarships and use Somaliland passports.

4. Some scandinavian countries - they have shown no hostility towards Somaliland sovereignty, contribute in development of JSL, are at times seen being
supportive of the Somaliland cause.

5. Kuwait - Although they remain neutral on the issue between Somaliland and Somalia, nevertheless they have been added to the list for the great
welcome they gave to the president of JSL and the many projects they contributed to Somaliland.

It is not secret Italy supports a united Somalia you id!ot. Their policies is in line with Somalia and there is no diplomatic relations between Somaliland and Italy.
Ironically in 1960 it was Italy that was against the reunification of Somaliland and Somalia but now they are the opposite.

Thats not a basis for calling a country an enemy of Somaliland. Have you forgotten that NO country recognises Somaliland, so are you gonna call all of them enemies? :mindblown:

Exec it is not about recognizing Somaliland but taking sides between Somaliland and Somalia. As you see i have left out the majority of the neutral countries that
don't get themselfs involved in this issues. However countries like Egypt have many times shown their hostility against Somaliland under the Mubarak regime
so they indeed deserve to be in the political enemy list of Somaliland. Although the new regime of Egypt isn't as anti Somaliland as the previous Muburak regime.

Ethiopia - I wouldn't say a friend more like after their own interests they are neutral though when it comes to the Somaliland - Somalia issue.

Kenya - Now this would be a potential friend their parliament and ministers voiced having no problem with Somaliland recognition but because
they invaded neighboring Somalia i haven't added them to the list.

Uganda - I haven't seen them getting into the politics between Somaliland and Somalia so no comment.

S.Sudan - They don't have a problem with Somaliland sovereignty. They invited president Siilaanyo and Somaliland ministers when they were getting independence
in 2011.

The number one rule of international politics is to only do something that will benefit yourself (the country). If there was 100 billion barrels of oil, you bet your ass the Americans will push for Somaliland recognition. But if there is nothing to be offered, why look twice?

There is no benefit for any country to recognize Somaliland. No such thing as being nice in intl politics. Even Ethiopia won't do it, the closest country involved in Somaliland, and that is because the Ethiopians are enjoying and benefitting from an unrecognized Somalia both economically and politically. It's a dog eat dog world in politics.

The only friends of Somaliland would be those who would publicly say they will recognize Somaliland and make sure that Somaliland will get its seat in the UN. The countries listed as friend as in fact enemies of Somaliland. UK, former colonists, have showed no support. Development means nothing. US gives aid to North Korea but we all know what kind of relationship they have. Djibouti is a huge enemy of Somaliland. Just yesterday, Ghelleh was in Xamar watching the Somalia political process. This man is a Somaliweynist at heart. He lobbied for 8 of his tribesman from Awdal to join the Somalia parliament. It's obvious what he believes in and wants. If he respected the sovereignty of Somaliland, he wouldnt have lobbied for 8 Issas to get their Xamar paychecks.

Scandinavian countries like Norway have made sure a few percent of their GDP goes towards international development and aid. That is why they are involved in Africa a lot, and in this case Somaliland. They are humanitarians, not looking to be anyones political friend.

The best time for any place to get recognition and their seat in the UN when the colonialists left (like Africa in the 50s and 60s). The next best example was the collapse of the USSR. The other times are individual cases where some superpower (USA) sees that they have an interest somewhere.

Only friends of Somaliland are those who accept them. Why consider someone a friend when they dont acknowledge your existence?
