How many are still alive? I know ismail ali jelle is but didn't know he was part of the coup. Because of their ill-advised action, Somalia is now trying very hard just get to where it was in 1960 (50 yrs ago).

I saw Ina Masale in London last year and I saw Osman Jelle win Dubai 2 years ago in the same hotel as Sh Shariif and PM Shermake. Very good men both of them

The 3 Marehan:
Maj Gen Mohammed Siad Barre--at the time Commander of the Somali Armed Forces (a position held today by another Marehan Maj Gen Abdikhadir Sh Ali Dini
Lt Col Ali Mataan Hashi--at the time Commander of the Air Force

Him and him Gabayre were court martialed 5 years later for breaking the same agreement that governed their earlier 1969 coup. That's hardly immediately.Notorious13 wrote:Gen. Well wether it does not, Caynaanshe was part of the coup so if it was illegitimate so was he with it. Caynaanshe and Gabayre then broke the terms of the very same coup they participated in and suffered the sentence they helped put in place.

yes, they destroyed a fledgling democracy and it took us fifty years to have the first elections inside Somalia - thanks to the man you almost worship and his friends. They fced up the country my friend - I know u won't like it butThe`Republic wrote:The 3 Marehan:

Waryaa-
I hope you don't take this as an insult and it is not meant as one, but by your own admission your understanding about Somali history and culture as expressed here was next to nothing. Historical events occurrence is to be judged in their place and time and that "fledgling democracy" is an insult to the name. Somalia today deserves to be called more of a "fledgling democracy" than those post-colonial days. The Revolution made some serious mistakes, had it not today would be the most celebrated achievement of the Somali people and all because of ending those corrupt 9 years in the post-colonial period.
This is Somalia where you called "fledgling democracy" whose historical experience with "democracy" in the 60's shocked even Africa observers around the world in terms of officials and level of corruption (a real strangulation of every since of the world); understand the implication that post-colonial African nations were already showing extreme corruption so a form of corruption shocking even observers of such must have been extraordinary.
The Revolution's necessity is never doubted; it was thoroughly legitimate to act. However, the criticism comes from elsewhere not the foundation.

voltage, walahi i wanted to say pls don't copy/paste some literature u've already over used in other debates.
If/when u broaden your horizons and meet ppl outside of the immediate clan you'll see awowe was not an angel but a military man who did illegal coup to benefit himself. If that new democracy was given a chance I am sure it would be one to reckon with today. What did we inherit from 20 or 30 yrs of dictatorship? How can you defend some1 who wanted run the country as his herd of cattle? I see guys who were very senior gov officials every day and none of them tells me what you want others to believe. Siad was a military man and somalia was held hostage by his regime. That's why we are trying very hard to get to 1960's state.
I dnt take u seriously when it comes to somali politics because you took that regime as rel.

Democracy was too much for a nation of camel herders just out of the clutches of colonial rule. When MSB assumed the Presidency, Somalis didn't even have a written alphabet. I don't believe in military dictatorship, but in some cases they are needed stepping stones between barbarism and democratic governance.

It's funny how some people find hard to stick to a subject but rather likes to flipflip. Clearly you stated that the administrations before the kacaan was better than the kacaan administration. As you've learned in you school classes (giving u the benefit of doubt of attending one) you'll know supporting EVIDENCE is important and Hear & Say does not hold no ground. The Republic provided u evidence documenting how incompetent and corrupted admintration pre-kacaan were. Your arguement has been shown to be baseless and hear&say.waryaa wrote:voltage, walahi i wanted to say pls don't copy/paste some literature u've already over used in other debates.

If we "broaden" the horizon about the Kacaan as u claim, then clearly many things are inherited from the Kacaan, to mention few:
1) Education- Majority of today's well-known Somali academics are Somalia taught and benefited from the Kacaan's free education.
2) Infrastructure- All the main infrastructure still widely used in Somalia were build by the Kacaan.
It's also indisputable to say that the competent Kacaanka barakaysnaa identified well all the potential mooryaans/anti-somali/murderous (like aidid, silanyo, abdullahi yusuf etc.) who were against united and prosperous Somali people. If the Kacaan was left to deal with these criminals and imprison them, Somalia would have not been in the state they are today.
And for argument sake, if say kacaanki was evil, is what the anti-kacaan brought you better? no education, healthcare etc. (let alone being free like back in the Kacaan time). I am 100% sure 99.99% of today's peace&unity loving Somali would say NO. Kacaan over anti-kacaan any day.
