Lately I have been following other major sports such as those played in your "little" country across the pond and I have noticed something. Now correct me if I'm wrong but, I assume all the major sports - such as football, baseball, basketball and hockey - originated in the original 13 colonies or the north east to be specific. Anyways, I have noticed football or the NFL is most popular in the south - where it is their main sport - and the north east. Baseball I assume is most popular in NE with famous rivalries such as the red soxs (Boston) and the yankees (NY) soo maaha. Basketball is popular again in the north east and california right. Finally hockey is most popular in the north eastern and mid western states bordering canada.

So of the states you guys live in which sport is most popular?

I don't know about originating in the 13 colonies. The south which has very little basketball teams and baseball are big on college and highschool football, and not so much on NFL.

In out state of washington, the most popular sport is Football, then baseball, then soccer. Basketball would of been second if we had a team. Soccer is becoming more popular, and I think not too long from now it will be second.

Perfect, I know due to small populations and high costs some states can't afford sports teams but it still doesn't make sense, when the wealth of individual states is greater than some countries. For instance how can your state not have a basketball team how much does it cost to build an arena for them to play in.

Our team left a few years ago when we wouldn't build them a bigger areana, and they tourned out to become one of the best team in the league

ironically, we are planning to build a brand new stadium for basketball and hockey, where we already have two large stadiums. Areanas are like 300-400 million I think

Basketball was invented in 1891 by a Canadian in Springfield, Massachusetts in New England. There is a basketball museum there.

Personally, I like Basketball the most of all three sports.

NA Somalis have a different sport to watch every night, it is true that America is the land of entertainment.
I watch NFL sometimes, it's pretty good and hilarious at times seeing obese men being top athletes but there is no flow to it as it's stopped every minute or so.

anyway, the uk also has many sports, some exciting some down right boring:

football (soccer) - no 1
cricket - boring
rugby - world cups and rugby union
tennis - federer
F1 - sometimes
golf - even worse than cricket

Teams are usually in certain cities because the league wants to expand the popularity of the sport and have all regions represented. For instance, there are many hockey teams in the southern U.S. In fact, there are as many hockey teams in the hot and humid southern U.S than Canada even with the sport being the unofficial national sport there. It's not that there isn't any demand for it in the other cites (there certainly is), but it isn't in the best interest of the league. The league (in all sports) is willing to take the risk in establishing a team in an area that the sport is not usually the most popular in in order to expand it's presence. It has happened many times where a city that was 110% expected to always have seats sold out was passed over for another city where it wasn't expected that seats would even be at half capacity.

It's usually up to the discretion and acceptance of the league as to which cities get to have teams. People who want to buy teams and later relocate them to another city will face a hurdle. The league will usually tell them to get lost.

LA, the second largest city, doesn't have a NFL team while the 260th largest US city is home to one of the most recognized NFL franchise teams in history.

Football and tennis are up there in the UK. The F1 is pretty good too, whose been watching the grand prix lately and saw Vettel still beat our folks with those shxt German engines
