Another UK Somali gang Murder

A THUG who killed an IT student in a 26-second "mission to murder" was jailed for life on Monday.

Hassan Hassan, 20, and his gang chased Sayed Abbas, 19, on to a Tube station platform when a turf war erupted in violence.

Mr Abbas was attacked with bricks, bottles and a pool cue by the Somalian gang, the Old Bailey heard.

Hassan, 19 at the time, knifed Mr Abbas three times in the chest on the platform at Hounslow West station.

The gang were caught on CCTV as they vaulted turnstiles to flee from the station after carrying out the attack in less than half a minute. Hassan was convicted of murder by a jury last month.

Judge Anne Goddard QC, said: "You killed a total stranger who had done you no harm.

"You did so because you had been summoned to take part in a revenge attack to support your friends."

Three other youths, Mohamed Ali, 19, Sherif El Gazzaz, 18, and Mustafa Ibrahim, also 18, were cleared of murder but each jailed for three-and-a-half years for violent disorder.

Judge Goddard said: "The awful fact is that you are all intelligent young men.

"You have all done well in your particular way of life.

"But on this occasion you had no sense of moral responsibility at all and showed pathetic immaturity.

"Your behaviour has brought misery to your families."

Hassan was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered he serve a minimum of 14 years behind bars before he can be released.

US serviceman Maurice Jones, who was on leave in London, saw the fight and then filmed Mr Abbas dying on his camcorder.

He said: "He looked like he didn't know what was going on, just wrong place, wrong time."

Mr Abbas had been playing football with friends Johnny Panesar and Hussein Miah in Beaversfield Park, on the night of August 12 last year, when they were confronted by Ali and El Gazzaz, both promising students.

James Curtis QC, prosecuting, said: "They appeared to have challenged the victim and his friends' right to be in there in their territory."

After a heated exchange of words, the pair then called Hassan and Ibrahim, also students, to join them at the station for a revenge attack.

Hassan was armed with a knife and El Gazzaz brandished a broken bottle.

Mr Abbas was unarmed and defenceless as he was stabbed through the heart.
