A MOTHER killed herself rather than face another long, dark British winter.
Janet Thomas, 44, suffered from Seasonal Affective Disorder, a type of depression triggered by shorter days and lack of sunshine.
To try to beat her extreme 'seasonal blues', she went on a sunshine holiday each January, sat in front of specially-designed light boxes and even planned to emigrate.
But the condition worsened and last week her husband David returned to their home in Newbury, Berkshire, from trying to collect pills for her and found her hanging from the banisters, an inquest heard yesterday.
