(CNN) -- As the first airline outside Japan to own Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Ethiopian Airlines has an impressive business record despite the global economic crisis. Growing 20 to 30% a year for the past seven years, the airlines' strategic plan is to carry 18 million passengers a year by 2025.
....
CNN: I understand you have a 15 year plan with Ethiopian Airlines and the target is to meet ten billion dollars a year in revenue. What does that goal tell us about Africa's aviation industry?
TG: Ethiopia is growing very fast. 11% GDP for the last decade continuously. It's among the fastest growing economies in the world. Africa is growing, so we are growing together. In our vision, 2025, strategy plan is to operate 120 airplanes. To more than 90 destinations, generating about 10 billion dollars, carrying more than 18 million passengers, 720,000 tons of cargo.
We've been growing for 20 to 30% per annum compounded for the last seven years. So in seven years, we have multiplied the airline by five times. So this growth is predicted to continue mainly because we are leveraging and harnessing on our strategic location. If you draw a line through China, Africa, India and Brazil we are located right in the middle and we take advantage of this growth because these emerging economies are growing very fast.

Ethiopian as it is called is an exceptional company, it is the only Ethiopian company which operate out side of its borders and it originates a country where all major economic sectors are government controlled so personally I will not invest it.
Being said that, m happy that they r developing very fast, I also believe th security of the HoA depend on the well being of Ethiopia so it is very important that Ethiopia gets better interms of Economy.

The Data which they are quoting is not reliable but they are doing very well though I don't believe the 11% GDP. Btw Ethiopia is the future, imagine a market of 100 million population, I can't wait when they market is liberalized.

prince, I didn't know they were growing this fast economically! It was a surprise to me because Ethiopia is still one of the largest donation recipient countries in the world. They receive much more aid than doomed Somalia.

The figures they are reporting r not reliable, never the less lately they have been making some progress, what is holding them back is the economy is still centrally controlled specially Energy, Banking, Telecommunication and all other important sectors are government owned.
But m still banking on them, we will continue investing in the other East African countries until they liberalize their economy then we move there Insha,Allah .

Somalia could've been everything today if it wasn't for a confused dictator that ruined the country, that ruined the chances of uniting all 5 parts of Somaliweyn, that ruined the trust and loyalty Somalis had for eachother and he sowed distrust, discord and hatred in the hearts of Somalis.
Ethiopians might hate eachother but they still have love for their country. Somalis on the other hand equates the President of the country and the entire nation with the clan he hails from and that my friends, is a left-over from taliskii Maxamed Siyaad Barre.
I'm glad that Ethiopia is doing some progress. Somalis should focus on their problems instead of being negative.
