Is the WORLD going crazy? France Opposing GAY marriage?

Really? I thought they were the most liberal country in the world? Didn't they 'invent' liberalism ala revolution>? Ala Bastille? 
I mean, I know the country is Catholic, but I never even assumed the country has remaining practicing catholics. I mean, to actually march in the streets in hundred to protest a liberal cause? So not French! Wow! Walaahi, there is hope for the world. Conservaticism is back in fashion. Whats next? 2016 a natzi republican US president? Hhhhmmmm Lets pray ma ha!
