Weird or not?

Salam guys! I hope you are having a blessed ramadan! Lately I have been seeing a lot of somali weddings where the girls are either wearing the indian sari or weird looking pakistani dress slash skirt? ?: Am I over thinking this when I ask the question.....why would you get married in a sari when you are Somali?

Lol. They've been doing that for years now.
How is it any different from wearing the white bridal dress though?

Whatever makes you feel beautiful. :)

The white dress is the same thing but at least it is a western culture and living in a western country, it is a bit excusable. But getting married in a sari has inferiority complex all over it.

Suits and tuxedos are universal now. It is not worn by any particular group of people as opposed to saris which is a traditional attire that is exclusive to indians only.

Somalis are confused folks. I remember Sheikh sheriff with pashtun dresses. If you look closely somali tv's Dacwa quickly you'll notice all Wadaadoos are dressed as an arabs. These wadaadoos have no clue the differences between religion and culture.

You will never see an Indian or Pakistani wearing a Somali costume. I don't understand why we always have to be the ones adopting other cultures so easy.

May be universal but certainly isn't traditional. And saris are being commercialized as well. You'd be surprised to see how many people who aren't south Asians wear salwar kameez's (mainly the tops) and saris.

Yes, personally I think it's downright weird. I definitely don't want a wedding of mine to associate with India, Pakistan or West Africa incase she happens to be some sort of hippie Afrocentric. She can have a wedding on a high school rooftop for all I care laakinse dad Soomaali aa is aroosaya and the wedding better imply that.

W/Salaam,

It's a U.S Somali phenomenon, very cringeworthy. I suspect all those bollywood movies Somali lagu tarjumayya have something to do with it.

There's nothing weird or new about it. Wore a saari on my shaash-saar and this was more than a decade ago.
