Puntland Ministry of Livestock welcomes graduate veterinari

Garowe, Somalia July 22, 2013 (Garowe Online)-Puntland Ministry of Livestock and Animal Husbandry held a welcoming event on Sunday evening for thirteen graduate veterinarians who successfully completed Sheikh Technical Veterinary School, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking at the event, Puntland’s Deputy Minister of Livestock and Animal Husbandry Abdiweli Hirsi Nour stressed the need for new graduates who are capable to put their knowledge into practice and that Puntland government is responsible for the students graduating from veterinary fields.

He added that the fresh veterinarians have met the expectation of the government and the pastoral communities in Puntland whose income heavily depends on livestock animals “We will work for your progress and offer you any support that you need so that you can exercise your knowledge effectively and efficiently,” said Mr. Nour.

Speaking about his ministry’s achievements, Mr. Nour noted that they can boast remarkable achievement today as the ministry opened animal health care centers in every region.

Mohamed Abdullahi Omar, one of the fresh veterinarians who spoke at the event said they initially considered the needs of their people particularly pastoral communities and found that the veterinary service is widely required in the country.

Among the speakers was also Dr. Abshir Saed Yusuf, ministry consultant, Dr. Abshir expressed his profound joy to the graduate veterinarians and encouraged them to help the Somali herders whom he said are in desperate need for veterinary service.

Puntland Ministry of Livestock and Animal Husbandry along with a German NGO VSF Germany (Vets without Borders) launched animal vaccination campaign which targeted over 120,000 livestock across Puntland.

The ministry says, the previous vaccine and medical exercises treated the animals in Puntland from animal flues, diseases caused by worms, infections from insects which feed on the livestock and measles.
