Better for middle class: US or Canada?
Which is better for the middle class?
I want to move to the US but I am not sure if life would be better or worse. I been there a couple of times just for long visits
One thing I am worried about is health care. How does it work? And how much is monthly payments for insurance? And does it cover everything? Will i be covered if i need surgery?
In Canada for instance, someone making $50K will pay $10K in taxes both federally and provincially. Is it much lower in America
I can suspect that its paradise for the rich but is it great for middle income earners?
I have my eyes set for Arizona or somewhere in the Southwest
I am,

The biggest difference is at the cash register. Aside from that, and the obvious issue of health care, living in the two countries is pretty similar for the majority of folks. If you're not making $100k+, I'd suggest staying put. But that's just me.

It really depends. Cost of living in the Southwest is pretty cheap compared to the East or West Coasts.
And it also depends on your job and what type of premiums you can pay. Plus the insurance companies outline what they cover, how much you need to reach in terms of your deductible, etc..its complicated. Abdiwahab can advise better on this issue.

It's pretty bad for middle class in America, even worse for the poor. Great for the rich.
Insurance is very complicated, and I have no idea how it works. They give you a whole packet dealing what they cover, when, where, and how much.

There is a stop to that. You can not be denied coverage for pre-existing conditions.
But honestly, I think middle class in Canada has it better.

I've got no understanding of how it works, really.
"Middle Class" in Canada is $70k+, which isn't difficult to earn, and I think depending on where you are can translate into a pretty decent living standard. People who earn $50K+ would probably consider themselves Middle Class, though technically they aren't; "Lower Middle". I think that says a lot about life here.

50K for single persons is middle class. Its plenty
You can't raise a family on that. Well you can but its not enough. That would be basically poverty. You need $100K at least of household income

If u r healthy---Mashalaah. United states is the best. The best economy of the world, one is guaranteed to be middle class. (as long as u don't have a lot of baggage like medical condition) Which brings me to the question of health care. If u r Abdi Johnson or Alpha--suffering from AIDS, then ---stay in Canada.

That's the thing, technically speaking you're not middle class at $50K, but it can feel that way. What's interesting is that the federal tax brackets group a large portion of the population together; $43-$87K @ 22%.AbdiJohnson wrote:50K for single persons is middle class. Its plenty

P.S. As labour unions shrink in both countries, as well the middle classes.

Re: Better for middle class: US or Canada?
Canada is better for the middle class, America is slowly dying, get out while you can Americans and emigrate to Canada, it's your only hope.
Re: Better for middle class: US or Canada?
Neither, particularly if you're Muslim and/or colored. For instance, millions of middle class white Americans/Canadians are forced to go to Mexico, the Caribbean and other parts of the world for medical treatment (surgery, dental, etc). Also, millions of retired Americans/Canadians (including Grant) live in many Third World countries, because living in their own country is stressful and not sustainable. Take into account, living decades in those countries, eating junk and GM food, breathing polluted oxygen, etc--you (and offsprings) are liable to contract local diseases (respiratory, cancer, leukemia, autism, etc).
