Abdi Johnson
So tell me about your political and social leanings.
I've seen you post some anti-religion posts. Are you an Atheist?
You seem to be a rather logical and forward thinking chap. I commend you.

Re: Abdi Johnson
I am a card carrying Liberal (in social matters) and believe in free market capitalism with almost no govt involvement (like a libertarian) in the market. I support very limited government assistance for the poor (only provide shelter, utilities and food). If the poor choose to work, I wouldn't tax them and give back every cent they paid in sales tax during tax season. That is the incentives I will give the unskilled people who go on welfare
I am agnostic. I support same sex marriage, polygamy, legalization of marijuana and totally against abortion except in the case of it threatening the life of the mother. I am against public funds going towards any religious organizations and political groups. Especially religious organizations. I would make them lose their charity status and make them pay taxes. Religious people have used their churches, temples, synagogues, mosques for profit. They are not good for communities. They are liars and thieves who need to be stepped on like a bug
I am sure your local community has collected money for 10 years to construct a mosque and still scream "we are only 10% of our target goal".
There are more Somalis like me but they are too flower to speak up due to being mentally enslaved by the corrupt religious establishment who will pray after stealing duffle bags of the Benjamin's from unsuspecting people. Their numbers grew during the Famine. Religious people love when tragedies occur. All they see is money. All they see is profit. Your local mosque has never organized a camping trip for poor unprivileged kids as the other religions havent. Its because the religious organizers are filling their stomachs

Re: Abdi Johnson
Your views mirrors mine. Especially regarding same-sex marriage, marijuana, polygamy and public funds going to religious organisations. I slightly differ on views on welfare, but I guess that can be put down to growing up and being educated in a socialist European country.
I wish more Somalis would speak up their mind, as I know many who are logical and rational and progressive. We need more Somalis to be open minded, willing to question the status quo, willing to question our own thoughts. The world needs people who think with an open mind and heart. Not people who blindly follow a dogma or take what their local Sheikh says as face value, simply because he is supposedly a sheikh.
I am that wingnut cousin who describes himself as a card carrying progressive, and I have never shied away from that.

I also support integration. Look at Asians. They come to Europe/America and do well. They even try so hard to integrate that they change their names to fit into the local culture. Not suggesting that Warsame and Xalimo should become Wayne and Katie, but if Somalis put in half the effort Asians put in to integrate we'd be a lot more successful.

Re: Abdi Johnson
I'll make this as simple as I can.
If you want to treat all citizens fair & equally, it requires that they have access to institutions that the government recognises. If marriage was simply a religious institution, which ultimately it is not, then that's a different matter. But if we're talking about access to public resources, access to rights and privileges that is conferred through this institution, then we must stand for the fair and equal treatment in every possible way.
The government recognises marriage because marriage is an agreement between two people to become related by law. The state recognises legal ties between family members for numerous reasons, such as legal responsibility, medical responsibility or financial responsibility.
How can you, or anybody else, deny certain citizens these rights & privileges simply because of their sexual orientation?

This is the type buffoonery and absurdity I am talking about. No logic, no rational thought, no independent thought. You are just spewing what you have been told since you were a child. Try and think logically about things, and I promise you, it will make sense to you.Jam Street wrote:Walaahi this mentality is what I call complete mind-fuc-King to the point one accepts every bullshit.

Re: Abdi Johnson
Even though I think it's their loss for risking eternal damnation, you have to admit that atheist are progressives who think outside the box because they aren't hindered by the limitations of religiosity as opposed to the rest. Humanists, advocates for social reform, logical thinkers...an atheist or two in Somalia's social fabric might do good for the society. Their religious beliefs on the hand won't really have any impact on the ardently faithful Somali population. I mean, you could always just lynch the atheist who decides to propagate his beliefs

Re: Abdi Johnson
^ Most atheists i've come across are extremelly angry and try to force their way onto you. Needless to say they try to act smart by quoting lines from the internet but when you ask them how the universe came about to be they start stuttering.
Besides I can't see how any straight grown man can support 2 fakkits going at each other
surely they should have been the kids having 2 fathers.

Re: Abdi Johnson
I call those sheegato atheists. Never understood why they are angry. I think their anger is a side effect of misguided religious indoctrination. Somehow along the way, they've decided to equate negative cultural dogmas to the religion they practiced prior to their alleged enlightenment. They believe themselves to be of sound logic and atheist, in reality, they are really just emotionally unstable. Quite a few of the Somali atheist fit this bracket.Colonel wrote:^ Most atheists i've come across are extremelly angry and try to force their way onto you. True atheists are rare. They are usually well mannered, composed, calm and only in search of answers. I have atheist friends, they've never once ridiculed my religion. On the contrary, they try to learn about it as much as they can.

Re: Abdi Johnson
You can't legislate gays into not falling in love or enter a committed relationship
Love is natural. Butt out of peoples private relationships. Men are born free to do as they wish
Religion is a problem and is the reason why Somalia is a hellhole today. The only reason why Somalia isn't like Japan or some other industrialized nation is because of religion. Religion is the source of all of Somalia's problems, either directly or indirectly. People die due to religious violence in Somalia (directly) and that violence is the reason why Somali cities have no sewer systems (indirectly). Any problem of Somalia you think of is due to religion either directly or indirectly
Somalia must be secular and liberal. Its the only way we will move forward as a people. Practice whatever you want in your homes and places of worship. Religion must be separated from the state. We don't want your beliefs down our throats.
most Somalis back home agree with me. Most don't even practice the religion. They are irreligious but can't say anything or their lives are in danger.

Re: Abdi Johnson
One must also question what those alternative lifestyles are predicated on. In antiquity it was founded on hate for women. They believed women were in essence the devil, and only holy unions were between God's which were men. Also it was a socialization process of taking advantage of young boys, particular in Greco-Roman culture. Not to mention it was only declassified from the DSM as a mental illness in 1974, by politically organized psychologists with socioeconomic clout.
I love posing a different paradigm of thought.
