First time being in a arab-christian home

Post by ZubeirAwal »

So my classmate and I are trying to execute this idea, basically this dude has a shit load of expensive film equipment, like if you sum up the DSLR's, the tripod, the portable hand-held tripod, the Dictaphone and the mic cord, and all of the lens accesories it reaches around 1k200. But me being someone who was always interested in editing and film since I discovered adobe premiere and sony vegas back when i was 13, he asked me if I could help work on a social experiment, interviewing people and asking them questions while on camera, i went ahead, i mean anything for experience right.

So i went to dude's house, he's a copt christian from sudan, he's only in the UK with his uncle, grandparents and older sister. To my suprise I didn't see no paintings or amulets of jesus on walls or mary, his grandmother approached me and was like with that " tafaddalu" , since they are from sudan they thought I was sudani, I struggled with my shitty arabic and explained that I was somali lol  . But yh, the crib was nice, im gonna be heading back and forth from there working on individual short films together, trying to build a portfolio and eventually show reels that might get me noticed to get a position as a runner and eventually a 2nd unit director or a 2nd unit editor.

I'm gonna be the founder of 'Sollywood' in a few years

Cool fact. Somalia interestingly was at the forefront of film in the Arab world way back.

Its the vision of the filmmaker not the equipment that makes the story, don't forget that.
