As much as I hate the cruel, barbaric practice of gudniin on girls, I still cannot stand these Western raised Xaliimos constantly exploiting the issue, for no other reason, but to further personal ends.

What I find most disturbing about FGM is how virtually every level of Somali society, from the religious establishment, to the political class, has spoken out against it, yet it continues?

I remember reading this one story where both a girl's parents refused to have her "cut", but her grandmother (whilst babysitting) had her cut in some barbaric at-home procedure. Who are these crazy people? Why are they so dead-set on cutting little girls, even if their own families are against it?

FGM will eventually be gone. I predict 25 more years. Somalis below 45 don't accept it.

I hope also male circumsizing (MGM) is also outlawed. It's barbaric and deprives males of the extra sexual feeling according to research

So you have an economy and workforce that can support and provide large segments of the population with access to modern treatment then it means the country has made huge progress and fgm (most certainly the fircoon version) would not be practiced. Scenario reminds me of the epithet putting the cart before the horse.

Japan is a modern society but they still massacre dolphins and eat raw fish. Spain is a modern society but they still practise bullfighting. US is a modern society but they still have the death penalty in many states. What's your point?

My point is thay 21st century modern medicinal practises and ethics dont approve of fgm. If somalia becames much more developed i dont think somalia would be a place where fgm is practised.

Dolphins aren't killed for food, they contain to much Lead. But that's beside the point, they are killed in horrific and disgusting ways for no reason at all. Modern medicine doesn't approve of FGM but they agree with plastic surgery? As far as being a problem, I think the Somali community has much bigger issues to deal with.

I do admit though that the term "Female Genital Mutilation" is kind of a hysterical term deliberately chosen to create a moral panic over this issue, and it's kind of an inaccurate term since it includes everything from female circumcision (clitoral hood removal) to clitoridectomy all the way to infibulation.
