Oday yar
Leave it to Reer waqooyi folks to put together 2 words that can't go together. Oday + Yar...

Re: Oday yar
Nothing to do with reer waqooyi...never heard of a "Little old man" or a "Little old lady"? It's the same idea
little old someone
ordinary; harmless. (Said to downplay or minimize the importance of something.)

Re: Oday yar
When people say "Odey yaroo caynkaas ah" it is usually due to physical appearance. Being petite has nothing to do with age. I believe they wouldn't call a big old guy..."Odey Yar'

Re: Oday yar
Not necessarily, as far as i know its just a term of reference which can be used regardless of appearance, such as "islaan yaroo suuqa xalwad ku iibisa" or " tu/ku yaroo waalan baa iga qaaday bahalkii" etc etc.kambuli wrote:When people say "Odey yaroo caynkaas ah" it is usually due to physical appearance. Kambuli - it is more of a yasmo/bahdil thing as ustaad Skippa said than to do with the physical size of the person.
Re: Oday yar
It just means small in appearance.

Tuushi - many of you are wrong. War Reer waqooyiga they will call Michael Clarke Duncan odaygan yar. Are you saying he is small in appearance?
As Skippa said, it is meant to belittle and yasitaan the person.
