Scientific Study: America Not A Democracy

A study , to appear in the
Fall 2014 issue of the
academic journal
Perspectives on Politics,
finds that the U.S. is no
democracy, but instead an
oligarchy, meaning
profoundly corrupt, so that
the answer to the study’s
opening question, "Who
governs? Who really rules?"
in this country, is:
"Despite the seemingly
strong empirical support in
previous studies for
theories of majoritarian
democracy, our analyses
suggest that majorities of
the American public actually
have little influence over the
policies our government
adopts. Americans

Yet there is a black man as president from a country which once enslaved Blacks and you live in a country where "Lord peers" comprise a chamber of parliament.

Put a yap on it. You haven't been to US yet I live here and been to UK. Would choose this country over that dreary Island any day.

America is the one of the most democratic countries in the world. Those guys even elect their own judges lol. Parliamentary democracies like the UK and Canada aren't as democratic. For instance, we don't vote for our Prime Ministers but rather just an MP. Those that vote for the PM are those who live in the constituency he represents; in my case, only a few thousand voters in the riding of Calgary Southwest voted for my PM. Lol. Hardly democratic and the same way David Cameron was elected. Also the senates of these parliamentary democratices are just stacked with party supporters who have be land owners. In America, senators are elected. Also, the heads of states is an elected person in America whereas its a monarch represented by some handpicked Governor General who is most of the time some party supporter in our parliamentary democracies

The level of corporate influence (oligarchy in this case) in the U.S govt is exaggerated; they have one of the highest corporate tax rates, they tax bonuses and I am sure no country beats them when it comes to white collar criminial convictions.

Its a myth. Americans definetely have the most influence over their govt compared to any nation on Earth. Americans can also particpate the most. We have no hope of ever being a senator or head of state whereas The Republic does lol.

Democracy my a**e. You talking about a country who operates 21st century concentration camp called GITMO and comparing it to UK. I remember the election days of Obama's religion was the talk of the country.

Lol,don't Shoot the messenger
Besides how does my posting this thread equate to my lauding of the democratic virtues of the UK political system. As for your token "precedent" that doesn't mean anything. In fact it just reinforces this study as he's a. relative of the olgarches in question..

Lol these poor Yungin's don't know jack shit about the country they live in. America has always been an oligarchy. In fact, the revolution was instigated by rich white land-owners and merchants rather than the poor working-class in outrage against British taxes and duties. From the moment of it's founding, the government/congress/senate was a rich old white dude club.
