HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The issue of Kenya establishing direct diplomatic relations with Somaliland is now a foregone conclusion.
This development follows the arrival in Hargeisa of a team from Kenya’s ministry of Foreign affairs in company of the Somaliland representative in Nairobi Ambassador Mahmud Jama Sifir for the specific purpose of official opening a consulate in Hargeisa.
The first official salvo towards the Kenyan desire to open direct diplomatic relations with Somaliland was fired by principal secretary at the ministry of foreign affairs Karanja Kibicho during a briefing to the Nairobi parliament while the local announcement was made by Somaliland presidential spokesperson Ahmed Suleiman Duhul.
According to reports the four man Kenyan team assisted by Somaliland counterparts which was busy scouring the city for suitable premises to host the mission since arrival are now said to be satisfied with what they got thence all systems go for the Kenya Consulate that becomes the second one after that of Ethiopia

I don't oppose Somaliland establishing relations with other countries but I don't like the motive of this mission by the Kenyans. It seems that whenever the stupid Kenyans have an issue or a conflict with the useless government of Somalia they suddenly warm up relations with Somaliland to score cheap points. I remember similar suggestions by the Kenyan government and even considerations of sending their prime minister to Somaliland two years ago when they had a conflict with Sheikh Sharif government after they had illegally entered Somalia.
But I have to give the blame to who it ultimately belongs to, Somalia. They are the ones who have chosen to be hostile to SL and to undermine Somailand's interest in every way possible. Instead of undermining if they have accepted Somaliland's legitimate claim to be part of the world community, it would have benefited every Somali in the horn by giving them a state that can effectively advocate and defend them, a state that can give a honest support to Somalia so it can defeat Alshabab, build better institutions to govern its people and to stand on its feet again.

Umm, you do know this is an extension of the Embassy of Kenya in Mogadishu right? Its very normal for a country to have consulate in different parts of the country (mostly places with higher population). For example, the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles and NYC, or the U.S Consulate in Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich. They are extension of the main embassy.

Try again.
