Puntland does not have one real airport runway. I always thought that Bosaso had a runway but no! its just sand

I also learned that Bosaso port is the smallest in Somalia. Puntland literally has no infrastructure. This is just amazing.
The level of underinvestment in the region is astounding Walahi. I don't know how they will build any of this.

Take some hallucinogenics and you'll be just like every other Puntlander. Ports, runways, airports, oil etc

Hydro it was surprising because S/L next door, has a port seven times the size of Bosaso's, and two concrete and paved asphalt airports each 3 KM long.
All the major somali cities on the coast have both a large port and a paved airport, except Bosaso. Berbera, Mogadishu, Kismayo all have large ports and a paved airport. Why does Puntland which 25% of Somalia have one tiny port?
The bigger problem is that this lack of infrastructure is placing sever limits to economic development in the region.

PL was build from the scratch and as for the runway its a issue of mismanagement, a chinese company won a the contract to build the bosaso runway this year. Lets wait and see.

No man, its just that we will not be able to compete with those cities that have infrastructure like that. It is just impossible for us to build anything close to what Kismayo Mogadishu and berbera have. You need a national gov for this level of development.

Those ports were from the 3 major cities of the former Somali republic and were built by the government. Corruption is the major problem and with gas we have someone who won't tolerate it.

You mean paved runaways? Why woud they call it an airport when there is no runaway. As Quark said we'll see if they'll pave the runaway or eat the money.

ps,all the ports and airports were built by the U.S and Soviets not maamul goboleds.

I thought the same thing "why don't they just pave the dirt runway?". Apparently its not that simple. It costs about $70 MILLION per KM of runway and that is considered the cheapest asphalt. The concrete starts from 100 MILLION per KM of runway We can't afford it at all.

Somalia needs around $250B to be developed. Tens of billions more every decade to maintain it

Half of that would go towards infrastructure.

We have a long way to go. We need the Chinese and Turks to do it for us. Let them have some resources in return

tgs, you have to consider many factors for the situation puntland is in.
both the cade muuse and faroole administrations did absolutely nothing for puntland domestically.
both administrations were corrupt and nepotism skyrocketed.
furthermore, the three major sea ports in somalia (mogadishu, kismaayo and berbera) were all constructed by the kacaan govt under jaalle siyaad.
our north-western neighbors had foundations that were already structured for them to begin with, while puntland needs to start from scratch.
jubbaland and puntland both need to start from scratch, although jubbaland has kismaayo which has somalia's third largest port.
hopefully the abdiweli gaas administration will bring forth change, a change that can be seen physically.

Like quark said puntland was built from scratch. Somaliland was way ahead of puntland when the big bang happened.
I believe they have the largest port in the horn and the largest runway. Hargeisa which at that time was the second recipient of government funds right behind xamar, yet not only did we compete but we made sure we were way ahead of them in terms of port usage. And never mind mogadishu ports. Cabdulahi yusufs government opened those facilities.

We have the 3th and the 4th largest cities in somalia
For the past 20 years bosaso port was the busiest, I believe we are being over taken now by foreigner's in xamar running the show.

Gaas is definitely going to shake things up.


And yes we should declare independence not because siad barre's aun repressive regime. But simply because we need to move in life...cant wait for mogadishu's miraculous turn around.
