How come it never really got any attention from Somalida. we have a few ruwayaado and some amateur films made in the west. Do we lack story's actors vision , if you look at the African continent Nollywood Films are very famous in west Africa. In the Indian subcontinent they have the Bollywood even Bolly wood movies are very popular in the Somali peninsula and the diaspora. We cant even make proper documentaries of our civil war professional one. There are enough Somali comedians and actors and people with talent do you think we miss film producers and directors. We still make theater style entertainment, but it never got the second stage.

All I know is:
That old movie with the reer miiyi guy who comes to the city and is freaked out by city life
and Flight 13 (was it 13? )

There is no Somali film industry because Somalis do not have the right principles and foundations to establish one. They want to write the story, shoot, edit and distribute on the same day. Other cultures spend years developing and perfecting their art and profession.

Somalis take everything lightly and want to achieve no professional level at anything. For them its about do it now and if it doesn't work oh well you tried

They should spend good five months writing the story, five months planning, five months training the actors and five months shooting but hell no they even write the story in front of the $500 home camcorder.

Somaliland, Hargeisa has few kids trying their best but they misunderstood the idea of film making. Rather than focus on strong story telling, they are just toying with few amateur technology. They need to stay focus and make films for the local people.

The Lost Diamond is good example. They probably put it together few weeks and I doubt the film was anything as good as the trailer. They need to use local names and promote local culture by focusing on local themes and issues. It should not be about love nor riwayad. Those two themes got killed.



Ethiopia, the fastest growing movie industry in the region. Better quality than Nollywood now.

Somali channels can't even display news footage adequately, let alone present talk shows with any regard. Unless the director or producer of a future Somali film is a graduate of some decent cinematic arts school, the lot we have now are hopeless.

Somalis suck at film making there were a few films in the west but were low qualities Somalis should produce great documentaries to educate the people. Most of the documentaries about Somalis are made by westerners. Lets hope some educated youth try to make something out of it.
