What SL is all about right now is on the wrong path for self-determination. At this time of history, we are place in a remarkable moment where our independence recognition is based upon 3rd world countries instead of 1st world nations. It is remarkable that to achieve this goal we only need one thing: Economic prosperity. WE don't need to ask for independence to UK or USA or anybody else but to few selected countries in africa to start a snowball effect where the first one on that list is ETHIOPIA. Sl has to have a lobby group into ethiopia for soft power purposes. We know that unofficially ethiopia recognize us (SL passport is accepted) but we suppose to reinforce this inter-dependance between our two countries where when SL security is concern, Ethiopia will automatically link that to its own security and vice-versa. The same bond that USA and Israel have is suppose to be replicated between SL and Ethiopia.
How can we reinforce that? By building a strong infrastructure into berbera port- quarter of that 250 millions of SL budget will have have to go into it for the next 4 years. This investment will increase tremendously port capacities and usage from ethiopia business(import-export) where berbera will offer competitive price vis-a-vis other regional ports. We don't need to compete with djibouti since it usually involves import from ethiopian government but Berbera should have an office in Addis where it will target all export companies. This lobbying group will also involves into political contribution with MP's from other regions. Encourage SL companies to set-up bases in ethiopia and thus increase their bottom line but also hire ethiopians employees. Set-up large gatherings in different regions where talks will be how local companies could enjoy tax-free imports from Berbera with a low transportation fees but always talk about how security prosperities is achieved in SL and if that is broken then it will also affect Ethiopia (soft power).You could replicate this lobbying group into different countries where political contribution is needed and results could be tremendous. to tell you the truth most ethiopians knows about SL and they are sympathetic to our cause, all we need now is to win their mind as much as their heart. If ethiopia associate his security prosperity to SL's one, then our cause is won and all we need to do is to increase our presence into ethiopia and whatever benefits we got from it, to reinvested into other african countries. The more we set ourselves up in different countries, the more our cause will be known and passport will be accepted. The beginning of the end for Somalia Unity joke is exactly when a country accept SL passport. It has already started.

Any knowledgeable secessionist understands Ethiopia will be the last country to recognise s/l.
They have you dangling by the balls...why would the give you independence?

Unfortunately for s/l.....it's the big boys of this world whom decide foreign policy....not half naked Africans.

The problem with Somaliland Foreign policy the end of cigaal reign we have shifted from alliance from time time , Rayaale and co focused to much on the African union and we all know that the Ethiopian leaders Melese zenawi gave rayaale advise. The AU are not willing to open that debate, Ethiopia there is so little she can do for us in terms of the recognition pursuit. It doesn't want to be viewed as the one that broke apart the former Somali republic.. Also the Ethiopians want to keep the Koonfurians on a leash keep their soldiers there for US incentive support. So they cant deal with anti Ethiopian sentiment coming from the Koonfurians. So they dont want to go all the way. But you are right the port business deal is something we need exploit, but we should remain close with the Ehtiopian for allot of issues and after Ethiopia it should be Kenya , the IGAD countries are very important Sudan and South Sudan to.

Also to have a strong rally groups not just in Africa dont focus to much on the African states the world is run from Washington and London. focusing on the European union we should make our selves useful for the Europeans The french having interest in berbera port bollore could be one deal. The Norwegians DNO oil firm and Anglo Turkish Firm Genel having interest in Somaliland should also ring a bell. The Kulmiye government already hired allot of firms for the recognition and to advertise Somaliland.Somaliland should have Triple Foreign policy we should also study the Eastern Countries the Bricks countries the emerging countries and not focus on one side.

Khalid niiyow is time to forget this "fantasy" that independence is solely lie within WaShington and London. Tell me horta, what will US or UK do if 30 countries if africa recognize your passport. US and UK cannot refuse an african country that has been accepted by AU. Impossible sxb. andDon't you think that those countries could be use as a slingshot to getting your passport being recognize by other non-african countries because those same african countries diplomatic relations with non-african countries could be used to our advantage. "cash rule everything around me" so if SL invest into a strategy that target full economic independence instead of political independance, then sooner or later political relationship seeking countries will come knocking into our doors. Washington and London cannot close their eyes when a lot of countries in the region recognize you. With 30 votes, you have a clear majority to be accepted into AU and then theres nothing UK or US do but to put a red carpet for Somaliland. Our future is a lot closer than what you think. Think outside of the box and lets be innovative.

EThiopia won't be the first one to recognize us that is for sure because they have their own interest into somalia per say but if you read my first post,I say we shouldn't put on emphasis on political recognition from ethiopia but rather economic inter-dependence. With our new found wealth, we should use soft power methods to ingrained into ethiopian minds that somaliland security is as important as their own. Once we got militarily support, we could use to have increase our own militarily and feel at ease into securing our own border. No more of that Khastuumo or any other BS doing a hid and run into ethiopia, no more of Hawd screemage with cagdheers mooryans, no more of Mogadishu dreaming to put a single fitna into SL. However our methods of lobbying will tremendously increase once we master the art in ethiopia into other countries where we could be more successful.


Once again remember this, the first step of the end of our struggle is to have Somaliland passport in at least 50% of all african countries. The next step will be to push a vote in AU (which could be helped behind the scenes by pro sl ethiopia)then the rest is history. Somaliland, the peace bacon of the horn deserves more than a single vision to improve it standing. WE need to renovate,innovate,articulate, sharpen our political savyness.

Lali good points but AU is led by the EU not the other way around the Bantus of the AU are very slow monkey's, we should do both ways the EU and AU not just one side. You are right one one thing we should focus on nation to nation state relations with African states and avoid the Bantu AU community club. Because they are not the decision makers.
