Its possible that the descendants of cushitic speaking people have once had some kind of contact with Egypt, but not as somalis though, the somalis broke off from the cushitics sometime 3000 years ago.

Re: Were somalis ever involved in ancient egypt?
i read in an article once that the land of punt is somewhere in between ethiopia and somalia...and that they tested hairs from apes/monkeys that were sent to ancient egypt and their hairs came back as identical to the ones found in somalia and ethiopia. and i always wondered why puntland was named that...was just a coincidence or was their a reason behind it.
and venusta and eastrix thank you for you're response, any more input would be greatly appreciated <3
and @warrabe get you're ignorant ass out of my thread, ill call you when i need foolishness bestowed upon my thread, but until then you can take you're clowning ass and swerve

Re: Were somalis ever involved in ancient egypt?
The land of Pwenet (or Punt) was an Egyptian geographic designation applying to everything on the African continent south of an imaginary line running from the 6th cataract (modern Khartoum) to roughly Suakin (port Sudan). This area is where Ethiopians imported a variety of products but most importantly Ebony, Ivory and Myrrh, the last of which was very important to Egypt not just for perfume and incense but also for religious purposes.
Archaeologists have no idea from what port Egypt actually sailed to in order to purchase these products, but it probably wasn't very far (Egyptians were not a naval people and their ships were mostly built for river travel, not ocean voyages). Personally I believe that port was probably Adulis in Eritrea, and the Adulis merchants were the ones who gathered Myrrh from Somalia, not the Egyptians. I don't think Egyptian boats would have done very well in the Gulf of Aden, which can be dangerous to navigate.
