Arabian countries are one of the largest trade partners of Somalia. It's useful outside of religion.

Somali, Arabic, and English should be compulsory in Somalia.

I totally and completely agree with you. Somalis should have a knowledge on those 3 languages:

Somali, English, and Arabic. It would be great if most Somalis were fluent in all three.

Al Saud is a tribe that derives from the Tribe of Banu Tamim in eastern arabia, the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) came from Banu Hashim who descend from the Quraysh, a different clan, if you're going to address something atleast have basic information of what you're addressing.

You're speaking english, are you white? is this the language of your forefathers? If not, then why are you speaking it? Is it because you were born there? If so, then why? Is it because you're people have been psychologically defeated after a century of Eurocentric colonization, to the point where the dominant way of life in the world is one where you follow the cultures of a foreign people, 5,000+miles away from the land of the Somalis?

I find it reasonable to study arabic to engage the Qur'an and the classical texts, just as anybody else would in order to understand whatever they wish to understand, as much as you'd like to believe in your hypothetical universal language that is 'English', it is not universal, and is actually one of the poorest languages in terms of it's organizational structure and it's roots. Arabic is a superior language to English, I say that with no bias, and I can prove it if you request.


I am really getting concerned about the rising 'House Negroes' that we have in the Somali community, who somehow believe that they are liberated free-spirited humans when they abandon what they had in order to accept what originates from a foreign land, I ask.. why? Is it because their new religion they adopted, that is, to worship material merchandise, to idolize celebrities, and to fulfil their desires is somewhat more easy and pleasing to them than what they had before? If that is the case then I am happy for them, as Islam is a religion unlike any other religion, and the more born-muslims leave, the more new muslims come.

I once lived with an upper class Somali Djiboutian family in Djibouti for a couple of weeks and was shocked that most of the time the children were speaking French with each other.

Apparently this is even very common among upper class Djiboutians. They look down on Somali as a 'useless language'.

You're right, the majority of Arabs today are not really arabs, but arabized arabs, the original arabs are a minority and are the indian/dark looking arabs, like yemenis and omanis, pale arabs in Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, etc.. are the descendants of Byzantine Romans. North African arabs are the descendents of Phonecians, etc....


@ OP, I found a poem from Imrul Qays (pre-islamic ancient poet) where he describes the tongue with the noun " carab" just like somalis use the word " carab" today when they speak of the tongue, I always suggested a theory that Somali is similar to ancient hebrew, ancient egyptian, afro-asiatic languages and arabic.

I have cousins in Djibouti who I lived with as a kid and they spoke no somali wallahi I'm not lying they only spoke french so I never really got along with them because we couldn't understand each other. I never really thought anything of it until now and realized how sad that was.

Also, when I was in Djibouti I once got lost in the city centre and had to ask about 10 different people for directions before I finally found a Somali speaker. Maybe because I couldn't tell the Afars from the Somali?

This was a couple of years ago, the situation may be even worse now.

I once went past Djibouti Airport, and I tried speaking to the Somali workers in Somali.
But the guy goes I only speak french or English.
