Why is the Masjid part phase 3? Surely it should come before the gym (phase 1) & school (phase 2)?
Unless they plan to use funds raised from those n building the phase 3 Masjid? But then $50mn suggests there's a budget already set aside for it?!

Every mosque built here does that, they build the gym first (cheaper and quicker), use that as a prayer space and continue to raise money, then complete the Masjid. They've raised $10 million so far.

The midwest and south have it good. Everything is so cheap. Cheap to buy land and fairly cheap to build stuff. Try to build the same sized masjid in the east or west coast and you're spending 3-5 times the money, if not more.

Wow, a very impressive project. Most importantly, it has a school and sports complexes where the community and especially Muslim women can exercise alone without attracting the wrath of Islamophoebes when using public swimming pools for specific nights/days for women only. Isn't FM economy based on the Oil Sands? Have they factored that Muslim families will move on to greener pastures if that economy stalls and then, they will end up with a mega structure white elephant with lower numbers of worshippers and student enrolments in the school that will be very difficult to maintain it?

Read the article, they intentionally avoided to mention Saudi Arabia and Mr Abdo the Centre's president mentioned several countries have been approached for donations without strings attached. No country donates millions of dollars to build an Islamic Centre in-return without input or influence how it should be run.
