Qaasim?

Post by 0sman »

Do African Americans have names like Qaasim? Not with K but with Q, and with double-consonant AA? :notsure:

PS: And check closely around 0:16 - 0:17 mark when he mentions his uncle, does he say "What's up uncle Barre/Farey" or something like that? :|

Meth, that's what I thought when I first saw the name. May be Somali Bantu families that went there long time ago or something.

The first Somalis who settled in America in late 70's and early 80's were "ethnic" Somalis and not Bantu-Somalis. These were mostly men, sida darteed qaxootinimo laysku dhiibo ma ay jirrin, waxaa la wada guursadey Latisha iyo walaasheeda oo carruur laga wada dhalley. Dee ilma adeeradooda Itrah iyo Mail-Man baay mar dhow is dillayaan marka ay hablahooda u soo doontaan. Walle waa laysku baaba'ayaa. qoodhaa iyo xeradaa carruurta waddanka aabahooda jecel iyo raggaasi ha la dhex-Gallo.

Yeah, but even a Somali family will have different looks. Stereotypical Horn of African look maybe. BTW, he is a very accomplished artist and is very curious about his Somali identity, I met the dude a couple of times and he told me his father abandoned him and his mother once granted a green card. He tried to establish a relationship once he heard his son was a celebrity. Abdi told me he was looking forward to reconnect with him, but all Mr Farah wanted was $$$. No apology for abandoning him but read him the riot act for respecting your parents in Somali culture. He told Mr Farah to piss off.
