okay so i have cousin and he just came out to his parents and siblings last week. his sister and i were talking and it randomly came up. he is 23 years old and his parents kicked him out after he refused to get quran read on him (because they thought it was the jin making him gay). long story short he found his own place and his parents practically disowned him. he was a very nice and intelligent kid. almost every aunt in the family bragged about him. he was one of those kids your mom would tell you to be like. he's currently in med school. i don't know how any parent would just throw their child away. id never expect that from a somali family, but they never fail to disappoint. i am ashamed to share any blood relation with his parents. the boy was brave though. bless him. somalis are just too backwards and uneducated at times.

I just can't imagine what it's like to be gay.
Just the thought of it sends a chill through my soul.

Only a tiny minority of gays are predisposed to homosexuality.
For the rest it is an acquired sexuality, through school, abuse, prison, drugs/liquor etc.

This is a case of nurture, if this kid grew up in the mii, slim chance he would ever been exposed to the idea that one is born a homosexual. Stuckon who do you think is the wrong here brother? this kid wanted to stop lying to his parents and told them the biggest secret anyone could ever have, and they not only rejected him but threw him away like yesterdays trash. i grew up with him, i really can't imagine how hard it mustve been for him. i visted him thursday just to check on him. I was scared that he might take his life. But i check up on him every now and then.

Avid, my post was not complicated. I argued that his declaration of homosexuality is a product of nurture and that if he had grown up in the Mii/Badiyo, the situation would have been different. Considering the religious and cultural values that they subscribe to; what the fuck else did you expect from his parents? They acted accordingly. As for my reference to Middle Eastern/Central Asian attitudes to sodomy, that was off topic.

zuumale you mentioned the middle east, and i stated what would've happened had he been raised there. i disagree with the nurture thing. yes him having the courage to come out might've been because of him being raised in the west. but it would've been just as hard if he decided to repress it and drag some poor girl into a loveless marriage. happens plenty with religious conservatives. i guess we'll just agree to disagree brother.
