Folks, the Ethiopian lobby in the USA is well-funded, with close to 1 billion USD annually. It is almost as if they took a page from AIPAC (American Israeli Public Affairs Committee) and adopted it to their owns needs. Kenyan lobby is picking up as well, as they have hired a very powerful law firm last year that will represent them in the case that is pending in the ICC in Hague that is between them and Somalia.
I have yet to see or hear any Somali political action committee in the diaspora. So, the questions that I have all of you, shouldn't we be discussing organizations in the diaspora that can benefit Somalis backhome and lobby on behalf of Somalia, instead of being pre-occupied with relationship and clan bashing threads? If anyone knows any 501(c) Non-profit Somali organization that lobbies on Somalia's behalf in the USA, please share it. This is the type of organizations that we should be supporting, at least in my view, provided it exists.
One thing to keep in mind, the lobby that has more funds is the one that can reach more senators, more congressmen/women, and senior policy makers in the executive branch, and of course have their wishes carried out.
Just my 2 cents.

We don't need this if anything somalis in the west should stop sending money to africa
giving free money to some one will only make them lazy and keep asking for more
let them sink or swim just like the somali minorities do who work their ass of to make a living in somalia

I don't think you get my point. I was referring to a lobby organization for Somalis and Somalia in the USA, and not the remittance that we send home. I also disagreed with you that we need to stop sending money backhome. I have been in the West close to 2 decades and have been sending money home ever since. You can choose who you send the money to, but stopping it while many people are suffering in Somalia is a disaster in my view. There are many poor people in Somalia, and helping each other is our social safety net.Warriors wrote:We don't need this if anything somalis in the west should stop sending money to africagiving free money to some one will only make them lazy and keep asking for more

The many people who are suffering are the minorities and the money getting send back isn't going to them it goes to the ethnic somalis who are lazy as shit and sit around because their to good to work like the minorities who have no one in the west. You might think your helping them but in the long run your not, I heard even oromos go to somalia to find work yet these people act like their isn't anygegiroor wrote:I don't think you get my point. Ina Adeer, Somalia is already represented by one of the major lobby groups in Wahington DC called Podesta Group.

You have a point there but cutting the umbilical cord is not the way to address it. Ethnic Somalis should be encouraged by both the government and our religious leaders to seek employment rather than rely on handouts sent by relatives overseas who themselves save from the welfare intended help them raise their own children. You will find Somalis who will rather seek welfare than work as janitors or blue collar jobs in the diaspora. It is ingrained with our culture and that needs to be addressed rather than cutting off xawaaladda.
